Day 4 and Day 5 (Bentota)Be sure to be well rested because this will be the longest drive of all the 7 days you will be spending at Sri Lanka. Bentota is a beach town which is a 5 hour drive away from Anuradhapura, so its best to start early so that you can still reach Bentota by late afternoon/early evening, leaving you with some time for leisure. I stayed at the Taj Vivanta in Bentota and was here for Christmas, so there was a great dinner being hosted at the hotel itself. There are many other resorts as well where you can opt for a pleasant stay.

Hotel Taj Exotica Sri Lanka
I reached Sri Lanka at the wrong time. Alone. There were some terror activities just the week before I landed and the entire city of Colombo was full of men with arms. After spending a couple of days in the city, shopping and roaming aimlessly, I knew I had to get out and see the countryside. So I rented a car and left towards Bentota. The drive was gorgeous. The road was laced with rain drops and pretty temples and ever-smiling people were my constant companions. I didn’t want the journey to end but once I reached Taj Exotica (the former name of the hotel) I knew I had to stop. The hotel was an oasis of calm and peace. The classic interiors with wooden high ceilings and large windows overlooking the private beach and the everlasting Indian Ocean screamed perfection. And I have to mention the standard Taj service which is always a plus. To be honest I don’t remember a lot of details but I can confidently say that my two days and one night stay before I left to explore more of Sri Lanka was a lesson in serenity. I would go back.
