I boarded the bus from Unawatuna to Colombo which was around 3 hours journey. I had booked the hostel at Galle Face in Colombo which seemed to be a bit up beat place. There was a concert organized for the night at the beach by Udit Narayan.
4.Get the morning train to Galle which comes from Colombo. You can stay here for relaxing at Jungle beach or can get back to Bentota after sightseeing Galle fort in evening. I preferred to return to Bentota as I am more interested in sightseeing than relaxing.
With an intriguing history, the oldest inhabited city in the world is a delight to discover. Visited by people from all over the country, no tour of the south is complete without a visit to Madurai. Shree Meenakshi Sudareshwara Temple is a 2000-year-old temple and is a must visit when in Madurai. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. There are four towers in the temple and each tower is embellished with a thousand sculptures symbolising an assortment of mythological themes. There are huge lines at multiple points in the temple so do keep patience. There are also a few rules that one must remember, especially women. Other points of interest in Madurai are Gandhi Museum, Pazhamudhir Solai and Koodal Azhagar Temple. The food in Madurai is a delight for food lovers! There are small stalls selling mutton rolls, which will have your taste buds thanking you.
This is one of the most beautiful places of Tamil Nadu and also one of the most important in the southern part of the state. This has a glorious history of about 2000 years and was the capital of the Pandya Rulers. Most of the important monuments and temples you will see here belong to the time of the Pandya rulers and the beauty of each of these are worth admiring. Most of these temples are still very well preserved. The presence of the Tamirabharani River makes this place even more beautiful. The main attractions present here are the Sankaran Kovil, Kutrallam, Kattabomman Memorial Fort, tiruchendur, Papanasam, Manappad, Thuthukudi, Mundanthurai and Kalakadu Wildlife Sanctuaries and many more.
Also known as Cape Comorin, Kumari Munai and Kumari, this city is on the southernmost tip of the subcontinent and is right on the confluence location of the Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. The unique part about this beautiful city of Kanyakumari is that this is the only place where you can enjoy the view of the sunset and the moonrise at the same time. Also, during the Chitra Paurnima during April- May, you can also see the sun and moon facing each other on the same horizon which is an absolute rare sight you will find elsewhere on the planet. Apart from this Kanyakumari is also a city of temples and most of them are dedicated to Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The main attraction are the beaches of course and for a pure experience of the beautiful waters, this city in Tamil Nadu is just perfect.
Finally we reached "Nuwara Eliya". Nuwara Eliya resembles an old English town, complete with a lake, race track, well kept lawns with hedges, an Anglican Church and an 18 hole golf course. We were pleased with the view from our hotel "Heaven Seven". Enjoyed the weather most.
