Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram Lorong Burma Georgetown Penang Malaysia
This temple was not originally on our list but just as we were about to leave for the airport our driver suggested we give this place a visit. I am so glad we listened to his advice because the Wat Chayamangkalaram is a stunning temple dedicated to Lord Buddha. The star attraction of course is the massive statue of reclining Buddha that reminded us of the Wat Pho temple in Bangkok. The interiors are stunning and there is an aura of peace and calm around the place. You can also light a candle and make a wish inside the temple.

Walking around spotting wall art and metal art at the UNESCO heritage site. Loved exploring the area
About George Town
Colonial architecture and Georgetown are somewhat synonymous. And then there is food, an abundance of it. The narrow lanes and alleyways of this jumble of a city are as chaotic as they could possibly get. With a temple here, a skyscraper there and a plethora of hawkers everywhere, Georgetown is associated with madness, but the kind you can relish. The capital of the state of Penang definitely deserves more recognition as the idyllic destination for those struck by wanderlust.
