Kakamega Tourism & Travel Guide

Nairobi
‘Karibu’ means ‘welcome’ in Swahili and it was the first thing I heard as I got off the plane. On landing at Nairobi airport, we headed straight to the Sarova Stanley hotel, where we were booked to stay. Located in the very heart of Nairobi, near its vibrant city centre and other shopping markets, this heritage hotel has been voted the best in Kenya at the World Travel awards, described by the Wall Street Journal as the ‘Oscars’ of the global travel and tourism industry. It was grand indeed. After checking in, we headed for lunch to its famous outdoor Thorn Tree Café which had functioned as the oldest post office in Kenya many, many years ago.
Kampala
DAY 10 - We set off early today as we have a rather long drive day ahead of us aiming to get to Kampala, a bustling city on the outskirts of central Uganda, by the late afternoon (approximately 285 Kms). Tonight we will stay in a well equipped campsite.
Nakuru
After lunch, we headed out to Nakuru. Nakuru is a little town in Kenya, far from the madness of the main city, making it more peaceful and friendly compared to Nairobi. How to reach: Nakuru is about 160 kilometres from Nairobi. Driving down takes about an hour and a half to reach.
Jinja
DAY 18 - In the morning there might be an optional game drive before we set off for our drive to Jinja. We will camp at scenic riverside retreat with showers and flush toilets.
Serengeti
If you want to see babies, head to central and southern Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (not to be confused with the Ngorongoro Crater floor). -Western CorridorThe Great Migration is in full force during its time in the western corridor of the Serengeti National Park and Grumeti Reserve. This area is touted for excellent game viewing opportunities and incredible herd sightings. -Northern Serengeti & Maasai Mara The crossing from northern Serengeti into the Maasai Mara over the Mara River is the most well-known and truly epic stages of the migration.
