1. Hutridurga Trek

Hutridurga also known as Uttari Betta is a small hill located around 65 km away from Bangalore. It is in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur & has recently gained popularity as one of the best one day treks to do near Bangalore. The total trek distance of this hill is 5km up & down. It is an easy trek to do & can done by people of all age groups.

2. Madhugiri Fort Trek

Standing tall at an height of 1200 meters, Madhugiri hill is the second largest monolith in Asia after Saavanadurga & is situated in a town of the same name in Karnataka. It has the ruins of a 17 century fort which was built by Raja Hira Gowda, a feudal ruler of the Vijayanagara kingdom. The peak of the hill also has ruins of an ancient Gopalakrishna temple. The trek offers some of the best views of the surrounding landscapes & attracts trekking enthusiasts from all over the world.

3. Kunti Betta Trek

Located around 130 km away from Bangalore & 33 km away from Mysore, Kunit Betta is a hill near Pandavapura town of Mandya district. According to mythology, the Pandavas along with their mother Kunti had stayed here for sometime during their exile & hence the name Kunti Betta. There is a stone pillar on top of the hill which marks the summit. The views of the surrounding paddy fields & coconut groves from the peak is beautiful & lures trekking & nature lovers from far & wide.

4. Chennagiri Trek

Around 65 km from Bangalore, Channagiri hills is one of the most picturesque & also most challenging hills to trek near Bangalore. It is very close to the popular Nandi hills & Skandagiri but is relatively less explored than both those hills. The beautiful views, the Omkareshwara temple, Hanuman temple on top of the hill & the cave temple are the highlights of this trek.

5. Skandagiri Sunrise Trek

Skandagiri can said to be one of the first names to pop up when someone in Bangalore hears of night trek. It is one of the very few places in Karnataka where night trekking is allowed now & therefore people throng to this hill on weekends to do night trek. The sunrise view from the summit & the ruins of the fort are the highlights of this trek. You'll have to take permission from the Karnataka State Forest Department & buy tickets before going on this trek.

6. Saavanadurga Trek

Saavanadurga is known to be the largest monolith in Asia. With an altitude of 1227 meters & steep trail, it is undoubtedly one of the most challenging hills to trek near Bangalore. There are two trek paths on Saavanadurga hill which lead you to the peak- Karigudda & Biligudda. Karigudda is much steep & hence more challenging than the Biligudda trail.

7. Maakalidurga Trek

Maakalidurga is a hill fort located near the village of the same name around 10 km away from Doddaballpur. It lies on the way from Doddaballapur to Gauribidanur & is known to be the nearest railway trek near Bangalore. The trek can either be started from Maakalidurga railway station or from the base of the hill. In the former case, you'll have to walk along the railway track from the railway station till the base of the hill for around 2 km. You'll have to take prior permission from the forest department to do this trek.

8. Hulukadi Betta Trek

Hulukadi betta is a place which is not very much popular yet but is one of the most beautiful hills to trek around Bangalore. It has the ruins of the fort built somewhere between 11th century & 13th century by the Chola Kings & hence makes an interesting trek if you are a history buff. The total distance of this trek is 7 km approximately & it is an easy trek to do.

9. Channarayana Durga Trek

Channarayana Durga is a fort located on a small hill near Koratagere of Tumkur district. It is around 100 km away from Bangalore & is well known as a trekking destination among the trekking community of Bangalore. It is an easy trek to do & requires no prior trekking experience. The ruins of the fort stand testimony to the history of this place & it is said that this fort held strategic importance in the medieval times & many battles were fought for its possession.

10. Antaragange Trek & Cave Exploration

Antaragange which is in Kolar, a neighbouring district of Bangalore is a popular one day trekking place & is also famous for cave exploration. Huge boulders atop this hill are positioned in such a way that they form caves. There is a Shiva temple on the way to the peak & it is known as the 'Kaashi of the South'. With its close proximity to Bangalore, Antaragange trek attracts a huge number of trekkers on weekends.
