Book bugs, it's time to place a bookmark in your current read and head out to the many literary festivals around the world to meet your favourite authors and interact with book lovers like you.

India bibliophiles need to go beyond the horizon of Jaipur, Delhi or Kumaon and explore some sublime international literature fests that have huge audiences all across the world. The best part is that while visiting these festivals, you also get and explore the fascinating destinations they are hosted in!

1. Hay Festival

The Hay Festival is one of the best literature fests in Wales, UK. Eleven days at the Hay Festival are the best days one can spend with different authors. A perfectly picturesque location right off the Brecon Beacons National Park, the festival will turn out to be an amazing travel experience for those who like to explore new things.

2. Edinburgh International Book Festival

Deemed as one of the largest book festivals in the world, the Edinburgh International Book Festival welcomes writers from across the world to come together and share a stage at the Charlotte Square Gardens in Edinburgh. The festival is a party for all sorts of book lovers with special sessions, talks, and musical events from 9pm to 11pm!

Entry to the Charlotte Square Gardens is free for everybody. The schedule does not come out until June, however, you can request a brochure for the event here.

How to reach- London to Edinburgh is about 400 miles and will take you about 7 hours to reach if you decide to take a road trip. You can also reach Edinburgh via air, rail and bus.

3. Texas Book Festival

The 2016 version of the Texas Book Festival was the largest they had ever planned with over 300 authors and more than 50,000 people in attendance. The Texas Book Festival is the largest literary event in the country that promotes literature and all kinds of efforts made in the literacy world. The book festival uses donations made to it for building and improving libraries across the country.

The event is held every year at the State Capitol Building in Austin and is free for all to attend.

Dates- 3 – 5 November 2017

4. Brooklyn Book Festival

The Brooklyn Book Festival is the largest literature festival in New York City, where a lot many famous authors and personalities come together to celebrate a world full of creative people.

The festival is held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall and Plaza. The official website has everything you need to know about planning your visit to the festival this year.

Dates- 11 – 17 September 2017.

How to reach- Regular flights go to and from the John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and the venue is half an hour away by road. You can also take the train to the location from JFK Terminal 4.

Where to stay- Holiday Inn Brooklyn Downtown is a budget-friendly accommodation, quite close to the location of the festival.

5. Göteborg Book Fair

This festival is by far the largest as compared to any literary event that has ever been hosted in the world. Influential writers from all over the world are present for this festival and this gives their readers plenty of chances to interact with their favourite authors. The book fair is set in a ravishing landscape that you can marvel at endlessly.

Göteborg Book Fair is known for promoting diversity, with a multilingual section where books in 40 different languages from different countries are displayed. You will need to buy tickets to the festival, before hand.

6. Miami Book Fair

A little splash never did any harm to anybody ever, and writers always need a good atmosphere to sort out their thoughts and get the best of themselves. The festival organisers define this as a literary party that goes on for eight days. That's enough said by them, I guess!

It has become one of the most loved book fairs in the country, where many readers and authors get together for a splendid time enjoying the space of Miami. The festival begins on 13th November at the Miami Dade College campus. You can plan a perfect holiday in Miami where you attend various workshops in the morning and go surf on the beach later!

7. Istanbul Book Fair

Istanbul is a beautiful city with colourful market streets and fascinating Turkish architecture. Its famous Taksim Square literally never sleeps, keeping its visitors engaged in one way or another. The Istanbul International Book Fair is a wonderful event that helps bring together writers of different genres in Turkey.

The book fair is attended mostly by local people and those who live nearby, yet the popularity of this festival is increasing and more people attend it every year. The fair is now in its sixth edition and is running successfully. It is hosted at the TÜYAP Fair Convention and Congress Center.

How to reach- Istanbul's busiest airport Atatürk International Airport is extremely well connected to the world and regular flights come here usually with one stop over.

8. Buenos Aires International Book Fair

Another interesting book festival at an equally fascinating destination is the Buenos Aires International Book Fair. This fair was inaugurated in 2011 and soon after that, Buenos Aires became the World Book Capital in 2011. The book festival is currently the largest literary festival in the Spanish-speaking world. An overwhelmingly large number of cultural events are hosted during the book fair.

The fair typically goes on for 20 days and is visited by thousands of Latin American people, and many famous personalities from the writing fraternity are invited to speak at events and hold exclusive interactive sessions. 9. Letterature

Quite distinctive just like the city it is hosted in, Letterature is a book festival organized in Italy every June at the Basilica of Maxentius, Roman Forum. Carefully nestled in history, this unique literature festival is attended by thousands of book lovers all across the world. The 2017 Book Fair will be its 17th edition.

This incredible festival invites musicians, videographers, writers, photographers and almost everyone who is inclined towards creativity. There is a theme set every year for every event. The dates of the event this year have not yet been disclosed, but you can keep a check on their official website.

How to reach- Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport is the closest international airport to Bascilica of Maxentius, where the festival is held.

Where to stay- Hotel Caravaggio is a fairly priced three-star hotel very close to the location of the festival.

10. ZEE Jaipur Lit Fest

India's largest free literature festival attracts more than 20,000 people annually at its event held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The ZEE Jaipur Lit Fest is an iconic event with many renowned writers, artists, film-makers, photographers along with stalwarts from different fields who come together to make this the best place to be for five days! Everyday there are musical and cultural performances to keep visitors enthralled.

The entry to this festival is free for everyone, however it is better to register yourself on their website prior to the festival. People who want to visit just for a day can buy a day pass for Rs. 300. While almost all of these literature festivals share the same ideology of spreading love amongst writers and readers, what makes them different from the lot are the locations they are set in, and travelling to attend these festivals is the perfect excuse. Now that seems like the real deal!
