North East – The Pride of India
The northeast of India comprises eight states and union territories that are the pride of India. Each of these is a remarkable place to stay and of course, visit. The Blue Mountain is conservationist’s delight as the hills are home to rhododendrons, orchids and other exotic flowers. The cliffs of the hills provide an astounding sight when mountain goats treat the cliffs as their homes.
Tawang Monastery, Arunachal Pradesh
The Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh is the second largest monastery in the world and the largest in India. The monastery is situated atop a hill at a height of 10,000 feet commanding a panoramic view of the Tawang Valley below. The hill is characterized by the presence of steep ravines and gentle slopes.
The Ravangla in Sikkim is simply breathtaking encouraging one to enjoy its serenity and beauty in solitude. Majuli Islands, Assam

The setting is so perfect that many tribes have made the islands their homes creating in the process a unique culture.
Shilloi Lake, Nagaland
The Shilloi Lake in Nagaland is formed amidst superb mountain peaks that provide an intriguing optical illusion. The lake is unique as it is a natural land locked lake surrounded by pine trees and tall mountain peaks.
The capital of Sikkim sits at a height of 5,000 feet almost touching the clouds. The city is acutely picturesque on account of the steep roads. A ride on the ropeway offers scintillating views of the ground below. The whole city is almost enclosed by the giant peaks of the Himalayas.
Jampui Hills, Tripura
The Jampui Hills in Tripura are located at relatively low elevation of 3,000 feet in the northern part of the state. The piece de resistance of the hills is the magnificent views of the neighboring Mizoram. The hills provide vantage points to witness sunrise and sunset that are truly incredible.
The capital of Meghalaya is Shillong. The city is located at an altitude of 5,000 feet amidst serene lakes and hundreds of waterfalls formed by numerous streams. The city is surrounded by mountains with abundant greenery and hordes of pine trees.
Khonghampat Orchidarium, Manipur
The Khonghampat Orchidarium in Manipur is remarkable on two counts. The place is run by the government and the place is replete with 110 varieties of orchids. The uniqueness of the orchidarium is the resemblance of some species of orchids to creatures such as bees, moths and lizards.
