Father's Day is just around the corner, guys! And so it's time to treat that one special person in your life who took it upon himself to invariably make your life better, irrespective of his monthly income. While you usually get away with handing him an emotionless greeting card or an easily-available liquor bottle every year, this year take a pledge to gift him something special. Take time out and either send him on the trip of a lifetime or, better still, go along with him.

And since every dad is different, I've listed down 10 different vacation ideas to appeal to all kinds of fathers. Go, splurge on him!

1. For the dad who is open to adventures

An occasional physical adventure never hurt anyone, and river rafting is one of the safest yet the most adventurous ways to do it. You can take your dad along to Rishikesh to do the same and trust me it's one thing he'll cherish for the rest of his life. Moreover, when was the last time you saw your dad completely freaked out with a life jacket strapped on? Book a hotel in Rishikesh right away, and get ready for the adventure.

2. For the dad who is a mountain boy

Whisk your father away from the monotony of his life to the quaint hills of Landour near Mussoorie. Originally built by the British Army in 1827, this tiny hamlet is still full of Victorian charm for an experience completely away from urban city life. I've also found the perfect cottage to stay, so your father can witnesses the place in all its glory and tranquility. One of the best ideas for a father's day weekend.

3. For the dad who loves to hit the road

The only route that your dad has driven is for most of the year is home – office – home. It's time you helped him utilise his car for a better and longer purpose – an epic road trip! The GT-Karnal route to Chandigarh is the most recommended, if you are starting your journey from Delhi. To prolong the fun, Kasauli is not far either, so you can cover it on the following day. I suggest this particular route because the best Punjabi dhabas are located along the way (which includes the ultra-famous Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba in Murthal as well). If your dad wants to drive a bigger or more powerful car, you can check out Ola Outstation for fantastic discounts and options.

4. For the dad who likes being pampered

If you've never seen your father sit down and take a breath, then you need to spoil him by checking him into The Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra. This luxurious spa resort boasts of a health club, an outdoor pool with sundecks and amazing poolside cabanas. Get him a room with a private balcony and unprecedented view of the iconic Taj Mahal. A great idea to pamper his mind, body and soul, I say!

5. If your dad is an alcohol connoisseur...

If your dad loves his biweekly tipples like my dad does, I strongly recommend gifting him a vacation at the Sula Vineyards in Nashik, Maharashtra. Widely regarded as the best winery in the country, Sula welcomes guests all year long for paid tours where they showcase their world-class techniques to convert grapes into wine. The winemaking process is just an alibi for the numerous tasting sessions and the luxurious stay at the vineyard. Your dad will absolutely love it!

6. For the health-freak dad

If your dad sticks to his fitness regimes religiously, it's time to gift him a vacation, which will satiate him emotionally as well as physically. Fix him a date with the Hyderabad Marathon in August and witness him prolong his morning exercise routines drastically. He'll suddenly find a new short-term goal in his life that he'll love to keep. This year's event is scheduled on August 20, and here's where you can register for it. If you've already made up your mind, you can book hotels in Hyderabad right away to beat the rush.

7. For the dad who's a water baby

If nothing else clicks, Goa is always the ideal option to fall back on! It's the perfect place to sit back with your dad and enjoy the evening sun drown into the endless waters with a beer in hand. Book a flight to Goa right away. When you get there, head to Calangute and Baga Beaches if he likes partying till the wee hours, and Arambol Beach if he likes to have his drink in peace. You decide, and book a hotel in Goa accordingly. You'll never regret it.

8. For the dad who cannot do without meditating

In Buddhist tradition, Vipassana means an insight into the true nature of reality through three marks of existence, namely impermanence, suffering and the realisation of non-self. If your father is into spirituality and meditation, there isn't a better gift than checking him into a Vipassana meditation centre. A 10-day stint inside the centre will change his worldly views forever and help him feel at peace. There are several stories on how the strict Vipassana routines alter a human being forever, you can read one here. If interested, you can check out Vipassana meditation centres in India here.

9. For the dad who hasn't yet gone abroad

We have all heard stories of men going absolutely berserk in the nightlife capital of the world that is Thailand. Why not let your father also have the time of his life here? If your mother is OK with it, send your dad to the island of Phuket with a guilt-free pass and ask him to let go of all his inhibitions. Phuket is Thailand's biggest island and is full of amazing beaches and is tailor-made for Indians travelling abroad for the first time owing to its large Hindu settlement and generally hospitable population. Your father will definitely not forget this trip for the rest of his life. Here are the best hotels in Phuket that you can book for the two of you.

10. For the dad who dislikes travelling

There are definitely those dads who do not like travelling at all. If you also have a father who jumps at the idea of cancelled outstation trips, I have a perfect solution for you as well. Gift him a staycation. If in Delhi, just book a room at the Oberoi Gurgaon and give him the gift of ultra-luxury with a 24-hour spa, a wellness centre, a pool larger than the one at the Olympics, set amongst acres of luscious greens in Gurgaon. This is pure bliss right inside the city.

Father's Day is on June 18. So if you plan on making this an incredible day for your father, then surprise him with any one of the above mentioned ideas. If you have already taken a vacation with just your dad, share your experience on Tripoto to help 25 million doting sons and daughters in the community plan better.
