As an avid traveller, I either explore the unknown or the known destinations basis my interest! Purely with much exciting options, one would consider going away to the mountain regions such as - Shimla, Manali or Nainital as a weekend trip. But, to be honest, they are getting way too overcrowded and commercial to the bone now. Really not the kind of weekend getaways! Instead, if you really want to rejuvenate and get yourself revitalise over the weekend, it would be better staying / exploring a small town or a village in the outskirts of these towns, where you can also grab enough picturesque shots!

So, here are some very interesting options for a quick getaway near Delhi

A small town in the Bundelkhand region (Chhatarpur District) of Madhya Pradesh, this is India's go-to destination for spirituality and architectural heritage. Famed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in India, this is one place you have to plan a trip to. Khajuraho will surprise you with its beautiful temple complexes that are adorned with Nagara style of architecture, so do not miss the erotic sculptures!

Things to do and see: Kandariya Mahadeo; Devi Jagadambi Temple; ChausatH Yogini Temple; Chitragupta Temple; Varaha Temple and Vishwanath Temple etc. You can also check out the Raneh Falls, Panna National Park, Ken Gharial Sanctuary. One of the offbeat destinations, you can visit with your family or friends too.

Located in the banks of River Narmada, this gorgeous town is largely referred to as the temple town of Madhya Pradesh. If you're a history buff and seeking for something intriguing with the past, you can experience a lot of mythological and historical importance here!

Best time to visit: October-March is the best months to visit when the climate in pleasant!

For the winter, this place can easily beat the list of your favourite hangout getaways! If you enjoy a little bon-fire on a chilly night, some Old Monk and a gang of friends, then this is a perfect place for you! Situated in Rajasthan, the town of Mandawa is really small and full of it’s cultural heritage. I suggest you plan a trip in one of the long weekends. Take a walk in this tiny town like I did, and cherish its beauty.

Best time to visit: Between November - March, when the dry desert heat is not felt and the nights are cold!

Another destination for history fanatics, Orchha is known for its grand palaces, carved temples and striking forts. Offering a historical significance, each attraction has a story to tell of this city's rich cultural heritage. This destination is also a photographers' paradise if you are into photography!

Things to do and see: Chaturbhuj Temple; Raj Mandir; Dauji ki Haveli, Chhatris; Phool Bagh; Betwa River; Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary; Orchha Fort; Laxminarayan Temple; Jharokha Restaurant;

Best time to visit: Orchha is best during the winter season! However, October - March is when the city experiences a temperate climate, making it a perfect time to visit!
