When to go

Hawaii enjoys tropical climate and tourists visit this paradise year-round. The best time to visit the islands and beaches of Hawaii is from June to September when the weather is pleasant, the ocean is warm and there’s little to no rain. If you are planning on visiting anytime from mid-December to mid-April, make your reservations months in advance as these are the busiest and most expensive months. Also, if you want to witness the Merri Monarch Hula Festival, you should visit in January and in the beginning of February to enjoy the annual Pro Bowl. You can plan to visit Hawaii during winter from November to March as this is off-season and prices are relatively very low.

Getting around

The cheapest way to get around in Honolulu is to use public transport. A public bus service called TheBus costs $2.50 for adults, $1.25 for youth, and $1 for seniors. The Airport Waikiki Express provides shuttle services to hotels in Waikiki every half hour and has a fare of $16 for a one-way trip. City buses also come to the airport once every half-hour, going through downtown and on to Waikiki. Avoid taking taxis to save money.

The public bus crossing through the main towns of Maui is easy to take and the fare is $2. Many places are not accessible by bus, and to visit them, you can rent a car, which is relatively inexpensive in Hawaii.

In Kauai also, rental car is the best way to explore the island and the only way to get to some of the most scenic remote sites.
