Lover’s Tale: A Ballad of Heaven and the Earth

Tripoto

We are all romantics; even those of us who display a tough exterior have, at one time or the other, expressed our most sacred and truest of feelings to someone. The sanctity of love can neither be blemished, nor can it be subjugated.

There is a similar relationship between the heavens we often look up to and the ground we stand on. Unsurprisingly, man has made many attempts to conquer the skies; our predisposition of wanting to vanquish the wide blue yonder comes from, at least in my view, the yearning of the soil.

When the night covers the skies in its gloom, she lies in wait, beseeching for a guiding light, for she can never give up. Her battle scars are still fresh; she remains cloistered within lucid imaginations and wistful cries.

But as the sun comes up through the bosom of the hills, the heavens cradle him in their arms. "A new beginning", she smiles. A new hope.

Philosophers, poets and learned men have tried to understand the sacred relationship between the skies–embellished with stars, like a maiden draped in riches, and the earth–born in dirt, wallowing in its murk, a peasant in the eyes of many but the one that ironically, looks down upon the rest of us.

Perhaps, there is no other story that is as desolate; the skies linger above us, nonchalant and uneventful on most days, unable to come close, for the heavens can never fall.

The lover’s storm has been masqueraded by the Stygian gloom. Her tempestuous and turbulent heart forces even the Gods to surrender. Her rage, far greater than the wrath of the Titans. Akin to a damsel caught between her devotion to Him, and to her Lord, her tumultuous winds leave scars too deep to heal.

The lust for truth, however, remains arcane to the mortal gaze, concealed beneath the tranquil azure skies. "Meet me at the horizon, where time and space diverge", she whispered to him, her parting words.

And they lie in wait for decades, perhaps even centuries. The earth continued to move, trying to keep its promise of bringing the two together. For millennia, their love remained true; the high tides bring the two together for a split second, their eyes twinkle, extending their arms, their souls bound together for eternity.

The ballad of heaven and earth knows no origins, neither does it expect a happy ending. They have embraced their fate; always a distance apart, never to be seen together.

However, their love remains purer than a snowflake. Their love keeps us alive.
