Earlier this year on an extended weekend, we chose to have a short trip somewhere nearby our home, i.e., Bangalore. Somewhere that would be absolutely worth going yet wouldn't burn a hole in our pocket. After doing little research and on getting reference from our friends, we decided on Chikmagalur & chose a heritage homestay over other resorts.
Amidst the woods and winding rocky roads stood a 200 year old house punctuated with bougainvillea vines - This place was unbelievably beautiful!!
You have to appreciate how much efforts the host had put into preserving all the things (from the furniture to weaving machine to the vintage guns) exactly how it was some couple of hundred years back yet giving the guests amenities like wifi, western toilet, television, etcetera.
Every pillar is so distinctly carved, if you notice.. some even have creaks and cracks in them. I ran my fingers through it and felt how time and age affects us all.. we grow old and wise with the experiences that we gather through out our years of life.
The host is extremely warm and hospitable and greets you with everything authentic 'Malnad style' from welcome drinks to yummy snacks to the absolutely delicious lunch buffet. The host and his family will give a tour of the entire coffee estate and will also arrange a jeep for nearby tours to beautiful sunset points

On the second evening there was a bonfire arranged for us along with coffee and hot freshly fried 'pakodas'. To experience bonfire under the moon-lit sky along with lip-smacking snacks, strong coffee & good old Bollywood music is sheer bliss!
We were provided sufficient covers as it was quite chilly in the area and even though the it was an old property , the beds and quilts were pretty clean and free from bed-bugs.
All in all it was an amazing stay in Bagmane heritage home-stay, easy in the pocket and actually gives you a warm and memorable experience .. certainly one that you would cherish for a long time & would love to go back :)
Cost (per person): INR 1500 per day including all meals in a day .
