A Trip to Kinnaur and Spiti Valley

I think the first week of October has some kind of attachment with me. Last year I went for Har ki Dun trek. This year also I planned for another trek - Roopkund. Roopkund? But the title says Spiti? So how did I land up in another state all together? Read on to find out :)

Uttarakhand high court restricts number of tourists at alpine meadows to 200

The Uttarakhand high court also directed the state government to remove all permanent structures from alpine meadows/sub-alpine meadows/ bugyals, including Aali-Bedini-Bagzi Bugyal in Chamoli within three months. https://www.hindustantimes.com/dehradun/uttarakhand-high-court-restricts-number-of-tourists-at-alpine-meadows-to-200/story-ggHmyzkEtzUPT57oNbPmPO.html

High Court Order Ends Trekking in Uttarakhand

The High Court of Uttarakhand has passed an order that prevents overnight camping in the high altitude meadows (and semi meadows) of Uttarakhand. https://indiahikes.com/high-court-order-ends-trekking-in-uttarakhand/

Everything was going fine until that news came. I chose to do Roopkund in this season because I knew during May-June there will be a lot of crowd. But now my plans hit a dead-end. Without overnight camping, doing Roopkund is very difficult. There are high chances of getting AMS. Indiahikes gave us an option to move to another trek during those dates. Hampta Pass, Tarsar Marsar, Buran Ghati were some of the alternatives. I was fascinated by Buran Ghati. But somehow the dates didn't match. Nevertheless, I was determined to go somewhere in the mountains. And thus began the search for a trek or trip!

I had heard about Spiti sometime back while browsing through Instagram and YouTube. The place looked amazing in pictures. I love this kind of barren terrain with huge chocolate-brown mountains in the backdrop. Ladakh also has a similar appearance. Then I saw Tanya's vlog about Spiti. I knew I have to visit this place someday. I checked the trip organizer's website and guess what! They had a batch going to Spiti from 28th to 6th !! I immediately called them up and checked about few things. And the next day, I booked their trip :)

So that's how it began! The next few posts will be about my experience in Spiti. Stay tuned :)
