I am a student, interning for a few months here in Kolkata. As I came from Kerala, I heard a lot about very famous event Durga Pooja here. I heard the statue of goddess Durga is sculpted here by the artist and sculptures at kumartuli. I was curious tosee as it would be one opportunity, not sure if I'll be getting back to Kolkata next time or not.. I am a traveler and I prefer to travel to new places if I get to. So I got lost at first time I visited to kumartuli. I visited with a friends, we couldn'tfind the exact place where the statutes are built, so with a disappointment we had to get back to our apartment, but the next time I visited the exact place again and after following to some local people there ( I could follow a little Bengali) theyknow Hindi so it was very convenient. After following them and going through some narrow streets I found out this place where I wanted to come.. Many small shops statues were everywhere. Handcrafted, mud, painting it was astonishing. I was stunned tosee the detailing of the works. So accurate, they made each and every part of the body with the precision. I witnessed the creation of goddess and being reincarnated, such experience. It's worth visiting this place.. I was lucky who can visit just beforethe Durga Pooja and see those statues.
Amazing place, when you see people handcrafting and sculpting statues, priceless. Roaming around and clicking those photos, such experience you can't get everywhere.. Since I heard this place is famous for amazing sculptures and sculptors, it's been a pleasure being witness to that.
