A trip to remember - Chandrashila Trek

Tripoto
30th Dec 2015

Chopta a small valley in Uttrakhand, opens the way to the most beautiful and picturesque treks, Tungnath trek and Deoriatal Trek.

Not only reaching to Chopta is amazing, the complete journey from Delhi to Rishikesh and then from Rishikesh to Chopta is something one can never forget. With heavenly views we crossed path with some of the most beautiful people.

If you are planning to travel to Chopta, get ready to experience one of the best journey. Just a few suggestions, first, don't forget to take a moment to capture the beauty of River Ganga at Rishikesh (may be you have experienced it in the past but you will agree that it's always refreshing and peaceful), and second, take a stop at small food outlets and experience the best hospitality.

One of the main attraction you will see along the way to Chopta, the sangam of Alaknanda and Bhagirath rivers at Devprayag to form mighty Ganga. I don't know what is with this view that you just stop there and praise the view.

Trekking to 4000 metre is itself a amazing experience but with the views of mountains covered with snow it becomes astounding. Sharing my experience now,

From our base camp at Chopta, trek to Chandrashila, the summit of Tungnath trek was moderate but it became a bit difficult reaching Chandrashila from Tungnath as it was the month of December and it was difficult to breathe and chilling winds made it a bit more difficult, Because of this a few of our group members decided to end their trek at Tungnath only. Feeling tired, is a common thing that you will face after reaching Tungnath as it is a long trek but do not stop as once you will reach Chandrashila, you will never regre your decision, it's so relaxing and peaceful at top. Although we were not allowed to stay there for long because of the weather condition but the time we spent there was just so worth every risk we took.

A few tips,

Do not carry heavy bags.

Keep chocolates and juices for refreshments and instant energy (this will really help)

Keep yourself hydrated.

You need to fill yourself at the base of trek as you will not find anything through out this trek.

The second trek, Deoriatal trek was altogether a different experience, from snow clad mountains to the wildlife trek. This is must visit if you are traveling to Chopta. (We didn't did, but one can camp at this place as well.)
