Overview.. It's an amazing trip to the border city. I took the Shatabdi Exp from New Delhi to Amritsar. There are many budget hotels for solo travellers near and away from railway station, the only issue is you have to search it carrying your backpack. I explored the streets in the daytime and tasted the local people's lifestyle. I took a shared taxi to Attari Border to watch the ceremony. I suggest if its weekend start by 2.30 pm from Amritsar. The event is one and only of its kind in India. It's a special feel to be there and witness. By 5.30 the event ends up and you can be back in the city by 6.15 pm. I visited Jallianwala Bagh after that. But I suggest you keep this schedule in the daytime so that after Wagah border you can directly step to Golden Temple by dusk. After Jallianwala Bagh I went to Golden Temple. Its a walkable distance from J Bagh. There you have every reason to enjoy the evening. That's the only place where I felt to stay few more minutes and few more minutes more in a religious place. The first sight of the temple will make you hold your breathe, stop and think "what an amazing place this is". Back to New Delhi I suggest the same train. I took a overnight bus as I didn't get a reservation.

A great city on the border.. Pleasant climate, well mannered people and delicious allo parothas... Thats what its all about this city.... The city has witnessed a historic event during our Independence revolts and at Wagha the patriotic adrenaline rush... and finally at Golden Temple , a feeling of being blessed in many ways....

This is historic place where the massacre of peaceful celebrators including unarmed women and children by British occupying forces, on the occasion of the Punjabi New Year on April 13, 1919. The casualties were counted upto 1500. You can feel the terrible feel that the people would have felt during the massacre, a single narrow gate and path. No place to hide or escape. The only way is to jump into the well. It's an emotional feel. A museum inside will help you to understand how it was.

In the center of the city, an amazing place with stunning architecture. Religious feel and more interesting is its history. The night view of the Shrine with all lights lit up, chants and the chill breeze makes you feel you are in different world.
