If you are a bird lover and photography is your hobby then Thol Bird Sanctuary is the place to be.
Situated about 30 km from Ahmedabad, Thol bird sanctuary is situated in Thol village in Kadi in Mehsana district, Gujarat. It's an artificial lake where you can find many migratory birds like flamingos, crane, palicon and many other waterbirds.
We reached Thol early morning at 6 am. Although there was no sun so early to see the birds but ample amount of chirping which made us 100% aware of their presence. The chilly morning was keeping us awake and in next half an hour we patiently made our way to find a perfect spot to see the birds.
And the birds didn't disappointed us when the sun is out. There were 100s of different types of migratory birds like cranes, geese, flamingoes, pelicans, egrets, herons, spoonbills, ducks, whistling teals, coot, baillon, darter and many other. Major missing- DSLR camera:-(. We didn't bring the DSLR camera and regretted every minute as the beauty which we could see in front could only be captured in frame by a DSLR camera.
We spent the next couple of hours enjoying the beautiful bird view along with the hot tea we brought from home. Do not expect to find any type of food item there, so recommend to bring your own food if needed.
Best time to visit: December to February
I will highly recommend this place for all bird lovers and a must visit if you are in or around Ahmedabad during this time of the year. Also if confused whether to go to Nalsarovar or Thol, then definitely go for Thol.
