However, right now the conditions of the elephants all around the world are worsening, with the increase in poaching, loss of habitat, clash with humans and elephants are also captivated and grossly mistreated. On this day all around the world, people are reminded about the importance of taking care of elephants and living a sustainable lifestyle without harming the existence of these creatures. World Elephant Day Assembly For School are held to teach students how we should all come together to save the environment and conserve elephants.

When was the first World Elephant Day celebrated?

The first World Elephant Day was celebrated on 12th August 2012, for bringing global attention to the numerous threats faced by the elephants in Africa and Asia, and their pressing plights. Although the elephant is an animal that has been respected and loved by different cultures and communities worldwide, lately elephants are being threatened by humans and their actions.

What is it important to conserve elephants?

Faced with a variety of challenges such as poaching, conflicts with humans and loss of habitat, and many other threats, the elephant population in the world continues to decline. Elephants are dying at a faster rate than ever. If it goes on at this rate, soon they will be eventually extinct, which will have massive ecological consequences which will also adversely affect mankind tremendously.

What are the goals of celebrating World Elephant Day?

The main goal and purpose of celebrating World Elephant Day are to raise awareness among people about the dire condition of the elephants. On this day, people all around the world are also urged to raise money for the cause of protecting and conserving elephants. The main steps of elephant conservation include greater protection of wild elephants, preventing illegal poaching with strong policies, preserving the habitats of elephants, treating elephants in captivity in a better way and gradually reintroducing them and rehabilitating them in their natural environment.

What can you do?

Raise awareness about elephants on this day on social media, at your office or even among your friends or at home. It is indeed a very important cause.
