Day 1

We chose Nainital to beat the heat this summer. And having a 6 year old kid along, we gotta choose places carefully to engage her continuously. With several lakes in and around Nainital this cannot disappoint much.

We travelled to Naintal through train, deboarded at Kadgodam and took a cab to reach Nainital. The weather was lower 20s and the pristine Naini lake made then place look beautiful. If you are planning to take your own vehicle to Nainital, avoid during seasons the whole Mall road was jammed during our visit with people sleeping in their cars. An estimated 20000 cars were stuck. Avoid using self driven vehicles in end May - June.

After refreshing ourselves in hotel, which was walking distance from Naini lake, Mall road. We decided to take stroll around Naini lake. This was around 5 km expedition and we enjoyed it thoroughly. You will have splendid view of the lake from anywhere. Thandi road, Naini temple, Tibetan market, Gurudwara, mosque and churches all coexist in this wonderful stretch.

We ended the day with sumptuous dinner at Shere-e-Punjab on Mall road.

Day 2

Next day we had plans to visit Snow view point and have a horse riding expedition to top of Nainital.

Snow view point can be accessed by a cable car, however you will require prior booking during peak seasons, we reached this place by cab. Weather was misty and we could not see the snow peaked Himalayas. Ideal season to watch snow peaked mountains would have been October - February as per locals. Nevertheless we have splendid view of the lake from the top through the woods. We also had ourselves clicked in traditional himachali dress on demand from my daughter.

Then we drove to north of Nainital in the woods for a horse riding expedition. The whole package was 700/- per person for around an hour long climb to Land's end and Tiffin top (Dorothy's seat). You can view the Khurpatal from the lands end and snap some nice photos from the top to capture this small lake below. Post that is a steep climb to Tiffin top which a flat land on the top where you see the entire Nainital. Many shops are there to serve you cold drinks and Maggi.

The horse ride is little tricky and you may want a horseman navigating your horse along. If you have booked two horses ideally only a single horseman comes along and one of the horses rides all along. One may prefer to request an additional horseman at a cost.

Post the ride we visited cave gardens, which is small neat place with two caves. After a short visit we left for lunch and then back to hotel. Evening we strolled along the bustling mall road for some street food and dinner.

Day 3

Though there are options to visit other lakes like Bhimtal and Sattal, we decided to spend the day at Naini zoo. And surprisingly we were not disappointed. The zoo is at an high altitude and you will have to trek after a point where vehicles are not allowed. Zoo is well maintained, clean and houses many wild animals and birds. Moreover the view form Naini lake from the zoo among the low hanging clouds is splendid. Indeed this is the most underrated zoo in India.

Rest of day relax in the Naini lake boating, recommend trying both the rowing and paddle boat.

Have fun.
