I always realised that travelling alone gives us immense opportunity to immerse in ourselves and it had been a long time I had not visited a place all alone so without informing anyone booked a ticket in Nagercoil express to reach Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin). I quickly packed a couple of books, my camera and a pair of dresses in my backpack. My journey started from Bangalore Cantonment railway station on Friday at 5.30 PM in the Bangalore-Nagercoil express. The train started moving and I got a book and started reading. Unfortunately the train did not have a pantry and I was hungry by 8PM. After some time a private vendor came selling foods, I took some food from him and finished my hunger. I went to sleep early around 9PM. When I woke it was early morning. And there was still some hours to reach Nagercoil, I started looking outside and the view of the early morning was amazing.

Day 1

I get down from the train at Nagercoil junction at around 9 AM in the morning and it was not very difficult to find a bus to Kanyakumari. I boarded the bus from just outside the railway station for Kanyakumari. I had previously booked a room at Vivekananda puram for my stay at Kanyakumari. I get down from the bus near Vivekananda puram and checked in to my room to freshen up. The rooms were clean, specious and well maintained. I took some food in the restaurant inside Vivekananda Puram and sarted walking to explore Kanyakumari the south most part of India. The town was pretty small and can be covered by walking only. I directly started walking towards the most attractive place of Kanyakumari, the vivekananda rock memorial. There were not much crowd near the ticket counter for the ferry ride to the rock memorial which is approximately half a kilometer from the shore. I boarded the ferry and reached the rock memorial in 10 minutes. The wind from the Laccadive Sea just freshened up my body and mind (People generally consider this place as the combination of the three mighty water bodies i.e. the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian sea and the Indian ocean but as per the geographical data this is the Laccadive Sea).

I spent time in tiny island till afternoon, the fresh air from the sea was just taking away every thought from mind and my mind was becoming completely blank. I also spent some time inside the meditation hall inside the memorial hall. I started realising that the place had something out of the world and that was the reason Swami Vivekananda ended up meditating for 3 consecutive days on the same place I was standing on. Though I wanted to spend some more time there my hunger made me come back to the shore to take some food.

Genarally the weather of Kanyakumari is hot and humid due to its presence nearer to sea and the equator. So I came back to my room to take some rest. After a quick nap I started towards the beach again. I visted the Gandhi memorial constructed in the loving memory of Bapu. I kept on walking and reached near the view tower to witness the sunset. I was little unlucky as the sun was behind the cloud in the western sky but still the view was mesmerizing.

After the sunset I walked down the street had some local street food, there was a small market for shopping though I did not buy anything. On my way I went to the photo gallery where the journey of Swami Vivekananda has been kept. Anyone interested in knowing something about swamiji must visit this place.

It was already 9PM and I started walking down to my room.

Day 2

My alarm started to ring at 5.30 AM and I quickly woke up and rushed towards the beach inside Vivekanda Puram to witness the sunrise. Still the sun was not out in the sky and but some people were already reached the place before me to view the sunrise. Grdually the Sun started rising on the eastern sky and the view was enchanting.

After witnessing a marvelous sunrise I was filled with a lot of positive energy. I walked back to my room. I checked out of my room around 9AM and I had still a full day to spend at Kanyakumari as the return train to Bangalore was at 7 PM from Nagercoil. So I decided to spend some time in Vivekananda puram itself. I started exploring Vivekananda Puram. I walked towards the peacock santuary where hundreds of pecock were roaming freely inside the park.

I went to the library where thousands of books were kept for the visitors, I spent a couple of hours reading a book on India's contribution to the world inside the library. It was already 1 PM and suddenly I got an idea of eating some seafoods. I just googled for some seafood restaurants and started walking towards the best rated seafood restaurant of Kanyakumari. The restaurant was a sea view restaurant and I strongly recomment the restaurant for people looking for a sea view restaurant in Kanyakumari. From the restaurant you can view the rock memorial in one side and the Kundankulam nuaclear powerplant on the other side, the perfect amalgamation of spirituality and technology.

After enjoying a nice seafood meal I started walking towards the wax museum near the railway station. Though the museum is small but it is worth a visit if you have some time to spare.

It was already 4.30 and I took the local train to Nagercoil from Kanyakumari station. After waiting some time in the Nagercoil junction station I boarded into the Bangalore express and that was the end to my 2 days solo journey to Kanyakumari. I realised that Kanyakumari was a great weekend destination whether you travel alone or with a group of people.
