Bijlimahadev is essentially a temple on the top of one of the mountains of the mid-Himalayas. Looking from the valley of Lords, Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, it seems as if the temple is ruling and protecting the area from the top. Every few years, lightening strikes on the shivling that lies inside the temple and the temple priest reconstructs it with ghee and milk again and it is quite surprising to see how it gets to its original shape again without any traces of breakage. One can go half-way towards the mountain top by hiring a taxi or a bus for very little amount. Then there is a 3-5kms trek towards the temple with awesome view of the Kullu valley and Beas river that runs across the same. There are many eating joints on the way. Once you reach Bijlimahadev, the sight is amazing as from there you can actually see the Parvati valley as well. The Himalayan range seems like a snaky path from such an altitude. A stay at night can be either in personal tents or the sarai that has recently been built near the temple. With just 500 bucks, a day-trek to such peaceful atmosphere is worth a trial.
