Bridge to nowhere

Our local Taupo Motor Home Assn held a social gathering at the bridge to nowhere. This was at Papariki in the Whanganui area of the North Island of New Zealand. This visit was on our bucket list. We stayed at the old school house which has a large camp ground. The owners of this organised jet boat rides on the Whanganui river to the bridge to nowhere,.  So many of the people who attended our social gathering wanted to do these jet boat rides that they organised more trips for the next day. What a great place to stay the owners of this business were so welcoming and went out of their way to accommodate all our needs. As ex dairy farmers we were excited to visit the area of the bridge to nowhere.  Soon after the bridge was built in the area where farmers were settled, the farmers ended walking off the land as it was uneconomic to keep the road up to date due to erosion etc.  The bridge was never used.  The boat ride up the river and back was a treat our first jet boat ride. The history of the area was explained to us on the way.  A lot of those that attended had the bridge to nowhere social gathering had this trip on their bucket list.  One more event ticked off.
