Preamble : Trip to Triveni sangam, Allahabad.

Triveni - Ganga, Yamuna and Invisible Saraswati. (Saraswati remains concealed with a belief that she marks her presence felt underwater). Sangam - Confluence of rivers.

Facts that aspired my visit :

 Over the history it has been the site of immersion of ashes of several national leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi in 1948.

 A place much visited with deep respect or admiration to a place where Kumbh mela is held every 12 years.

 Bath in this confluence is said to be so sacred which would cleanse people off all their sins and free one from the cycle of rebirth. It is even believed that all the gods come in human form to take a dip in the Sangam to expiate their sins.

 There are stories that even Lord Rama visited this place during his period of exile.

 It is believed that some drops of nectar fell from a pitcher from the hands of Gods, which makes up Triveni Sangam such a holy place for Hindu’s.

My Odyssey

Delhi to Allahabad: We took a train journey to reach Allahabad Chheoki, as it was off season trains were empty and came lucky for booking tickets. Even flights are available from Delhi. We reached in the evening with a welcome drizzle of rain at around 17:00hrs. Then we headed towards Allahabad city through local share auto rickshaw which charged 20rs/Individual.

We looked for hotel rooms closer to the Allahabad Junction railway station as we had a travel plan the following day. Rooms are available from minimum of 500/day for a decent hotel with Tv, Cooler and other basic facilities. We hurried up refreshing ourself with a Bath and a cup of tea reaching to the room.

Triveni Sangam

We woke up early morning at 04.00hrs and had a head bath, got down to the main street and boarded a auto rickshaw which throwed us at the banks of River Ganga at 05.20hrs. The sky was so colorful filled with the twilight and the cool breeze was awakening the lazy sleepyheads us.

We took the walk along the river bed heading towards the water, you can notice several devotees offering prayers and busy in their religious work. You can find many boats once you reach the River banks, they charge 60rs to load you into a fully loaded boat which is called shared service. But i would recommend you to book a boat separately for yourself which would cost you 300 to 400rs for picku and drop. Dont imagine of much a river cruise you would get, all you get is a 30 to 40minutes ride into the sangam and back again.

Once you are into the sangam you can clearly notify the color difference of the water between both the rivers Ganga and Yamuna. Where the third river Saraswati is not visible to eyes and has been believed that the third river runs below Ganga and Yamuna.

I felt so blessed to visit this place at this time of calendar due to the weather and climate, it was fully cloudy towards the east and Horizon stood so mesmerizing with-holding the glittering rays falling on it up from the sky.

Notice the color change - Yellow/Reddish is Yamuna and Bluish is Ganga.

Our Boat driver was a local lad, to whom we had requested to take us to a much longer ride to spend more time. You dont know who comes helpful and when. The boy was so friendly and hardworking, return way back to the bank of the river was a upstream where he had to row the boat against the heavy flow of the river. He managed it well, where we opted for some helping hands which he rejoiced.
