The Delhi Metro's Heritage Line, an extension of the Violet Line, has finally been opened to the public.
This line runs from Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate, covering a distance of 9.3km. The line will connect the heart of Delhi (Janpath, CP) to the historical centre of Delhi (Daryaganj, Jama Masjid, St.Stephen's Church and Begum Samru’s Palace).
The three stations on the line – Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid and Red Fort – are underground, and are dotted with installations on the walls that take you on a journey that shows you the rich history and architecture of Old Delhi, without even getting out of the station.
The line has 7 stations - Janpath, Mandi House, ITO, Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid, Lal Quila and Kashmere Gate, out of which four have been operational for around 3 years now. Also, with the launch of this line, Kashmere Gate has now become the first station of DMRC to facilitate seamless integration of three metro lines - Yellow, Red and Violet.
The Red Fort and Jama Masjid stations will have 'dream gates', which will enable users with e-wallets such as PayTM to enter the metro station with the help of their smartphones. Commuters will be required to log their journey details on the e-wallet and a QR code will appear, that will be read by the special entry gate and let the user through.
