Today I will tell you about a trip where not only the destination is magical but also you will enjoy the journey….
I went there last year. Its situated in North Sikkim.
Day 1: I started my journey From NJP railway station . You can get share car or reserve car to go to Gangtok. It will take around 5 hours to reach Gangtok. Gangtok is the capital of the mountainous northern Indian state of Sikkim. After I checked in to the hotel I went to search for a travel agency. You will get many travel agencies there. You have to pay advance amount, next dat morning when the journey will began that time you have to pay balance full amount. You have to submit address prove Xerox and passport size photograph for permit.
If you want to see only Yumthang valley then it’s a 1 night trip from Gangtok, and if you want to see Yumthang valley and Gurudongmar lake then it’s a 2 night trip from Gangtok. To see Zero point you have to give separate amount to the driver not to the agency. Fooding and lodging is included.
Day 2: Journey has been started at 8 am from Gangtok. On the way you will find a beautiful waterfall. Magical Kanchanjangha will guide you for sometime. It’s a long journey so in afternoon I had lunch and then again after long journey I reached Lachen(A Small Village).Overnight stay in Lachen in a homestay.
Day 3: At morning 3 am I started to explore Gurudongmar Lake. Its too dark at 3 am and the roads are very bad in condition. At around 5.30 I saw the first light of sun and no one can describe the beauty. White snow covered hills are looks blue and around 6 am its became Golden colour.
On the way you will enjoy 2 different views. In one side its hills with snow and another side it’s a vast area without greeneries.
Finally I reached Gurudongmar Lake around 7 am. Only one old temple is there. If you have breathing problem don’t go there. It is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft. You will not going to get any shops or local house to help you.
After sometime I left the place and again started the journey to Lachen. On they way you can get shops to have breakfast. After reach lachen had lunch and again after long journey reach Lachung (another small village).Overnight stay at Lachung.
Day 4: In morning at 6 am I start for Yumthang Valley. After reach there had breakfast. You will get local shops to have breakfast and to buy or rent winter clothes and shoes. It’s a beautiful valley covered with snows. Its also known as Valley of Flowers.If you want to enjoy flowers then go between march to May.
From there I went to Zero point, Situated at an altitude of 15,300 ft. above Mean Sea Level. It is a place very close to the Indo Chinese border. It’s the last point of India where you can reach by car. From Yumthang its take around 1 hour to reach. Few tea stalls are there where you can get noodles.
After spending sometime went back to gangtok at around 10 pm. Overnight Stay in Gangtok.
