About the vacancy
A small island off the coast of Ireland, the Great Blasket Island can be your home and workplace for the next few months if you get selected for this unusual job. The island has posted this vacancy for two people who can be a couple or just two friends willing to take care of this small landmass. The duo will have to be the permanent residents of this island from April 1 to October 2020.
What do I get?
Besides the salary, the couple will be provided with food and accommodation.
What will I have to do?
As caretakers, the duo will have to carry out housekeeping duties and provide amenities such as breakfast to tourists who visited the island. They will also have to manage the finances, maintain the property and clean a chicken coop. The duo will also be required to run a small cafe.
More about the island
Sprawling across 11 acres, the island is unoccupied and has no electricity. Residents can use energy generated through turbines to carry out basic activities like charging a phone or laptop. Also known as An Blascaod Mór, the Great Blasket Island was abandoned in 1954 because of a decline in population. People feared that poor weather conditions would make the island inaccessible to emergency services.
