Morels are locally called “Guchhi” need a certain altitude—dense vegetation, and a certain level of moisture to grow. It is found in abundance in Pangi Valley. But much of the morels grown in the region are sold in Amritsar & Delhi and served in five star hotels in India & abroad.

It is believed that thunder storm lightening when burns the ground in the dense forest; the spores of the morels get germinated. This knowledge is deeply peculated into the Pangi Valley.

It is wildly grown in the Pangi Valley. April and early-May are the best times for morels tour & Cuisines. But it can be purchased in the local market till September for rupees 8000 -10,000 per kg which depends on the production. However, in city, it is being sold for rupees 35 000 to 40,000- per kg. During festivals seasons or on the arrival of guest, it is served to the guests by the locals with rice.
