Day 1

Train Travel:

Departure from Ahmedabad to Jalandhar. (Due to sudden unavoidable circumstances there was change in schedule, we rerouted our journey to Shimla instead of Manali.)

We opted for sleeper class which costed around Rs1000 (Ahmedabad-Jammutawi express).

Day 2

From Jalandhar to Shimla:

We had booked a traveller from Jalandhar.
Reaching Himachal pradesh, we climbed a ghat. The ghat was beautiful, the river Satluj flowed below and the sunset colouring the clouds created a fantastic scenery.

We had a little breakfast stay at Hotel Crafreria in evening.

On the route towards Kufri, the night was incredible. The clouds lit up with lighting and the city was full of lights.

Walking through the woods towards the hotel stay (Kufri greens) 1 am at night, looking up we could see the night sky full of stars which was a first experience for me.

A stay like nothing else. With amazing views and beautiful, affordable rooms, this place indeed will capture your heart. At a great price of Rs2000 a day.

Day 3

Free roaming Shimla:

We had our breakfast and then departed for visiting Jakhu (Shimla's Highest peak).

The huge hanuman idol is visible from many kms away. Reaching it was tiresome but worth it.

Warning: Take care of your belongings while walking towards the temple as the macaques steal those easily.

Day 4

Traveling towards Kalpa:

A whole day of travel, we stayed for breakfast at Narkanda and continued the journey. Amazing landscapes to be seen while traveling.

We were stuck at Rampur for 5 hours as mountain clearing was being undertaken. It rained heavily when we passed Rampur.

At Karcham we saw Satluj rapids and Karcham wangtoo dam built across this powerful river.

We reached our stay at Reckong peo where we had dinner and spent the night.

A small city at 2400 meter elevation, surrounded by huge snow covered mountains and river Satluj.

Woke up at 4:30 am to see the gorgeous snow covered mountains which later due to sunrise looked quite graceful.

Trekking to Dhankar lake was very exhausting but believe me when I tell you, it was all worth the effort.

Note: Keep drinking plenty of water while trekking as you can easily get dehydrated.

This day features lots of world's highest places in the world.

The signature location of Spiti valley. The Key monastery - 4116 meters, is home to the peaceful monks. There also is Primary school where we saw children playing.

Inside the monastery there were Meditation chambers where the monks meditated. They were sculpted in rock and nothing from outside can be heard inside.

The monk had prepared a special tea and served it to the visitors. Drinking the tea immediately removed all our tiredness and the effects of elevation.

Then we returned to Kaza. In the free time we roamed Kaza shopping road and got ourselves some souvenirs from the Spiti Souvenir shop.

Day 7

Return to Rampur:

Full day journey from Kaza to Rampur.

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Mahesh Bar. The room was quite impressive and only at Rs1000 for 2 days.

Day 8

Towards Shimla:

Small break at Kufri view point then on the way to Shimla we were stuck in traffic for 2 hours.

After Dinner at a Dhaba we continued our overnight journey to Jalandhar where the next day we had train to catch.

Day 9

Departing from Jalandhar:

The overnight drive was very tiring as we had to stay up to keep driver company.

In the morning we freshened up, had breakfast and waited for the train (Jammutawi-Ahmedabad express) to arrive.

Day 10

Back to Ahmedabad:

The trip was worth the time and effort. Himachal Pradesh has so much more in it that we have yet to discover.

The people of Himachal were so friendly and kind. It really felt like a different world out there. No matter how much time you spend, you'll always feel that you need more.

The overall cost of the trip (per person) was Rs16000 including Driver fee and side expenses.
