Nestled in the heart of the Indian Himalayas, Buran Ghati is a trekker's paradise that promises a blend of breathtaking landscapes, thrilling adventure, and serene solitude. This lesser-known trek, located in Himachal Pradesh, offers an unforgettable journey through dense forests, lush meadows, pristine streams, and snow-capped peaks. Join me as I recount my exhilarating experience trekking through the enchanting Buran Ghati.
Day 1: Arrival in Janglik
The adventure begins in Janglik, a quaint village that serves as the starting point for the Buran Ghati trek. The journey to Janglik itself is an adventure, with winding roads offering stunning views of the Pabbar River. Upon arrival, the charm of the traditional wooden houses and the hospitality of the locals set a warm and welcoming tone for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Janglik to Dayara Thach
The first day of trekking takes us from Janglik to Dayara Thach, a mesmerizing alpine meadow. The trail meanders through dense pine forests, gradually opening up to reveal expansive meadows dotted with wildflowers. As we ascend, the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains grow more spectacular. By the time we reach Dayara Thach, we are greeted by a serene landscape that seems straight out of a fairytale.
Day 3: Dayara Thach to Litham
From Dayara Thach, we head towards Litham, another picturesque campsite located near a clear, glacial stream. The trail today is a blend of meadows and forest patches, with the snow-clad Dhauladhar range forming a majestic backdrop. Litham’s beauty is accentuated by the convergence of multiple streams and the presence of the Chandranahan Lake nearby, which is a sacred spot for the locals
Day 4: Exploration of Chandranahan Lake
A rest day at Litham allows us to explore the pristine Chandranahan Lake. The lake, surrounded by rugged mountain terrain, is a sight to behold. The trek to the lake is steep but rewarding, with every step offering glimpses of the untouched beauty of the Himalayas. The tranquility of the lake, coupled with its crystal-clear waters, provides a perfect spot for reflection and relaxation.
Day 5: Litham to Dhunda
Leaving Litham behind, we trek towards Dhunda, a high-altitude campsite that offers closer views of the Buran Pass. The ascent to Dhunda is steep and challenging, but the vistas of the snow-capped peaks and the sense of isolation make it worthwhile. Camping at Dhunda, under a starlit sky with the towering peaks standing guard, is an experience that etches itself into memory.
Day 6: Dhunda to Buran Ghati Pass and Descend to River Camp
The most anticipated day of the trek arrives as we set out to cross the Buran Ghati Pass. The climb to the pass is steep and requires navigating through snow and ice. The exhilaration of reaching the summit is unparalleled, with the panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges stretching endlessly. The descent from Buran Ghati is equally thrilling, involving a steep descent that often requires the use of ropes. By the time we reach the River Camp, we are exhausted but elated, having conquered one of the most challenging yet rewarding sections of the trek.
Day 7: River Camp to Barua Village and Departure
The final leg of the trek takes us from River Camp to Barua Village. The trail descends through beautiful apple orchards and terraced fields, gradually leading us back to civilization. Barua, with its vibrant culture and friendly locals, offers a perfect end to the trekking adventure. From here, we drive back to Shimla, carrying with us memories of an unforgettable journey.
