This awe-inspiring location was not known to Indians before 1931. It was in this year when three British Mountaineers named Frank. S. Smythe, Eric Shipton, and R.L. Holdsworth while returning from their successful expedition from Mt. Kamet lost their way and showed up on this valley which was filled with awestruck flowers and rare vegetation and flora and fauna. They named it ‘VALLEY OF FLOWERS’ after which Frank Smythe also wrote a book with the same name.
You will have to trek from Govindghat that will take you to Ghangaria. If filmmakers want to shoot films, they can also arrange a helicopter to reach there. But it’s not going to be easy. There is road connectivity from Dehradun and Haridwar that is 270 km away from JOSHIMATH, a nearby location from Govindghat.
The intriguing cascades of Valley of Flowers also have a religious reference in the Hindu religion. It is believed that Lord HANUMAN brought ‘Sanjeevani Booti’ from this place to cure Lakshmana. The location is also important in terms of religious significance because you can also visit HEMKUND SAHIB, a religious destination of SIKHS. Every religious locations nearby Valley of Flowers have their religious significance and folklore. During your visit to this place, you will get to know many folklores and stories that will increase your interest in this mesmerizing location.

If you are more interested in witnessing snowy mountains, then the winter season is the best time to visit this place. But the last month to visit this beautiful place in October. The Valley of Flowers opens on 1st June and closes on 4th October.
There is also a fixed time interval for visiting this place; You cannot just go and stay in the valley of flowers. From June to October, the valley opens at 7:00 am and closes at 2:00 pm. The last entry time is 2 O’ Clock so that you can return by 5 O’ Clock in the evening. This is exactly happening from the past few years and one of the disastrous examples of this saying happened in 2013 when Uttarakhand Flood disaster devastated almost all the beautiful locations in Uttarakhand. It didn’t just take many lives, it also ravaged the beautiful Valley of Flowers and since then this location witnessed very fewer tourists.
This is after 7 years that now this location is again reviving itself and now again tourists are taking interest in visiting Valley of Flowers. Due to this natural calamity, the place was inaccessible for a few years. It took a lot of effort for the government to recover from this beautiful location and its nearby area. So, a human needs to take care of their natural environment so that both can perform their duties simultaneously.
