Gokarna is a small town, located in the state of Karnataka at an hour drive from south Goa. The word Gokarna means 'Cow's ear'. It is believed that lord Shiva emerged from the ear of cow and hence is also an important pilgrimage town. It is around 238km north of Mangalore and 483km from bangalore, the state capital.
It's scenic beacheson one side and beautiful western ghats on the other side makes it as one of the most beautiful road trips one can ever have. From Mumbai to gokarna it takes around 13 hrs journey via road. Gokarna's beaches are a pure bliss ,laid back and rustic, where people come to chill and soak up the sun. You can find shacks, restaurants and resorts to cater to your needs.It's a proper hippies place.There are four beaches located one after the other namely Kudle Beach, Om Beach, Halfmoon Beach, and Paradise Beach. Each one has its own charm. During my visit i liked the Om beach as the best one as it is the most happening beach of gokarna and it can be reached by a car or even by a public transport. This town attracts many tourists local as well as western.
