Trip to Golden Triangle, Odisha was a perfect blend of piousness, solitude, nature, and exotic architecture. I went to the three famous destinations of Odisha, viz. Bhubaneshwar, Puri and Konark with my family this monsoon. Sacred Jagannath temple, beautiful beaches of Puri, long drive along Bay of Bengal, marvellous Sun temple of Konark, and magnificent Lingaraj Temple of Bhubaneshwar all together made our trip memorable.

Day 1

Initially our trip was jeopardized when our indigo flights got cancelled a week before departure. With no other option left we took a connecting flight from Delhi to Bhubaneshwar via Kolkata. Against all odds, I actually enjoyed that adventurous flight with breathtaking views of the Hugli river course through West Bengal. It was really exciting to watch its confluence with Bay of Bengal. The sight was so spectacular that I had no more regrets of wasting 3 hours by taking a connecting flight.

At last we arrived at Bhubaneshwar amidst heavy showers. We then left for Puri in pre-booked cab. It was a beautiful ride to Puri with highway lined with Coconut (Nariyal), Betel (Paan), Areca Nut (Supari) and Banana trees on both sides. After 1.5 hour ride we reached Puri. We checked into our sea facing room and freshened before we could leave for Jagannath Temple. We visited temple in evening and returned room by 7pm.

Day 2

Tired from all day excursion we ordered our dinner and slept early that night. We saw ‘ Mangal Arti and shringar’ at Jagannath ji temple early morning. The best thing that I liked about temple was the kitchen area “Bhagwan ki rasoi” where daily chappan bhog is prepared by thousands of kitchen workers together in earthen pots in 742 chullahs. Entry ticket to rasoi is just Rs 5. Later we enjoyed cold breezy walk at beach with few showers of rain and left for Konark by 11:00 hours.

It was another beautiful road trip along Bay of Bengal. We halted at Chandrabhaga to see confluence of river and ocean. We also stopped at sea beach before visiting Konark. Sun temple is another marvellous structure from Indian history. It is dedicated to Surya dev and shaped like a massive chariot having 24 wheels and pulled by 7 horses. We did some shopping and reached Bhubaneshwar by 4pm.

So many coconuts.. :D

Day 3

Next day we didn’t see much in and around Bhubaneshwar. We visited Lingaraj and some small temples and left for airport with beautiful memories of Odisha.

But adventure was lurking again. Odisha didn’t let us go. Our flight was delayed by 6 hours due to thunderstorm and heavy showers.
