Home to one of the top tourist destinations of the World, Greece offers the most beautiful Island called, Thassos where lies an unknown lagoon known as Giola the 'Natural Swimming Pool'. Located 4kms outside of village Astris, this pool is sadly unfamiliar and not easily accessible. However, can be well planned if you wish to see it.

Carved by sea water in the rocks measuring 20x15 meters, it's a breathtaking scene and is definitely worth the effort.

So, what say travellers? Read to find out how you can visit this natural beauty.

An almost circular pool, about 10 m wide and 3-4m deep in the middle - this is a place for relaxation and tranquility.

Once you make it there, it won't be disappointing! The water in the lagoon is warmer than the water of the sea and if you are planning to dive in from a height of up to 8 meters, this will definitely provide you a comfortable swimming experience!

A true natural beauty, the view of the Aegean sea is unique and unbelievable! A must place to see if you are visiting the island.

Best Time to Visit

How to Reach

By Road: There are 3 options to travel by road: self-drive, hire a taxi, or take a bus. To get there, you have to take the main road of the island: from south to east, pass Astris village towards east. Further down, you have to follow the road (400-500m) and at the end of this road, you have to walk down the hill for 15 minutes to Giola.

By Air: Thassos is well connected to the two International airports. Kaavala International Airport is the closest (and smaller) airport and is a simpler route to reach the Island. From here, you will have to take the ferry which is a 15 minute drive.

From the farthest (and larger) airport, Thessaloniki International Airport, it'll take you approx. 2 hours to get to the ferry port in Kavala.

By Sea: The most convenient ferry which is accessible is the Keramoti - Limenas (Thassos Town) - the shorter, faster, cheaper, even popular and most frequent route. Takes about 40 minutes!
