This triggered fury among his followers and fans started sharing their own billing horror stories in response. Seems it is not uncommon for hotels to charge exorbitant rates from guests. The word spread like wildfire on online platforms. The matter soon became a topic of national interest, leading the authorities to take a stern action against the act.
The Excise and Taxation Department of Chandigarh has now issued a fine of Rs 25,000 on hotel JW Marriott in the city for over-charging actor Rahul Bose for fruits served to him in the hotel. A copy of the bill that was part of his online post clearly showed an additional GST added to the purchase. The hotel authorities failed to give a satisfactory reply on a show-cause notice served over the issue and this led to the imposing of the fine, finally.
R K Chaudhry, Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, UT Chandigarh stated that in this matter, a showcase notice was earlier issued to the hotel management. While the authorities needed strong reasons from the hotel authorities for how this happened, the response was not satisfactory and unreasonable.
