Whenever we talk about Cherry Blossoms, we always think about Japan..Even net is flooded with so many colorful pictures of flowers blooming all over Japan during spring. This generally attracts tourists from all over the world to Japan.

But did you know India also host its own International Cherry Blossoms Festival in November? Couple of years back, government of Meghalaya planted thousands of cherry blossoms around the capital. Yes, this festival is hosted in the beautiful city of northeast, ‘Shillong’.

Generally the festival takes place for about a week and here is what you will experience here:-

Food festival

You can try the local delicacies of north east which is offered in the festival. From Pork chops to delicious noodles and fried rice, you get everything on the ground.

Wine festival

You also get to savour the best wine available in many interesting flavours. We tried the dates one at the festival. The best part of buying wine here is..you get to taste it before you buy.

Live band performances

North east is famous for its rock music and you can witness this live while attending the festival.

DJ nights

Grooving on the beats of dance floor in a disc is a cliché, so you get a chance to dance to the beat of some great DJs in an open ground and mingle with the locals. Its an extraordinary experience which you will get here.

Apart from the above events, they also host events like Fashion Shows, Archery competitions, traditional dances, Bikers stunts etc.

All these activities are hosted in the various part of the city such as Polo ground, Ward Lake & JLN Stadium.

Getting there:

Guwahati Airport is the closest one to Shillong. There is a also one small airport at Umroi, about 35 km from Shillong as well, it has fewer flight options as opposed to Guwahati Airport.

Guwahati Railway Station is also well connected to almost all parts of country.
