Isha Yoga Centre is spread over 100 to 150 acres of land in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. It is located next to Adiyogi Shiva Statue(for details refer to my blog Adiyogi : Sculpture of a Yogi).

Dhyanalingam Yogic Temple

The centre is run by Isha foundation. Isha foundation is a non profit organisation formed by Sadguru Jaggi Vasudev where people work on volunteer basis. Many Indians as well as foreigners work as guides and as members of foundation.

The centre is highly decorated with natural beauty from inside out. There are many beautiful places like sacred ponds Surya Kund and Chandra Kund, Dhyanalinga Yogic Temple, Linga Bhairavi Temple, Isha Rejuvenation Centre, home school and residential area for staff. Canteens and souvenir shops are also there inside the campus premises for refreshment and shopping purposes.

Road to Isha Yoga Centre

Yoga centre is on a walking distance from the Adiyogi sculpture. One can also enjoy the ride of bullock carts for travelling to the centre. In this technologically advanced world, the next generations will feel amazed to know that the things like bullock carts ever existed in this world. Visitors out there specially pay for enjoying the bullock cart rides.An important note to keep in mind is that phones, cameras or any type of electronics accessories including shoes and baggage are not allowed inside the campus. At the entrance foundation members collect all items and keep them in deposition counters after issuing the receipts and token numbers.

SURYA KUND

Surya kund

At the entrance there is a big hall containing chairs and LED TVs playing instructions and procedures to enter Surya Kund. Surya kund is very big man made sacred pond where people go and offer there prayers before visiting the Yogic temple.

THE POND

The pond is 3 to 4 feet deep. Water comes from a n artificial waterfall and gets circulated like it circulates in swimming pools. Three shivlingas made of solidified mercury are placed in the middle of the pond. One can only enter the pool after wearing red towels provided by the foundation. Personal clothes are not allowed inside. A ticket costing Rs20 need to be bought from the counter before entering the changing area.

PROCEDURE

Water inside the pond is a bit cold with a divine fragrance. Prayers are offered to Lord Shiva by holding the Shivlinga and floating rest of the body in water. Children are not allowed inside the pond unescorted. Read the instructions carefully before entering the pond as some of them are very important. People with skin allergies and other major diseases should avoid to enter the pond. Members of foundation keep a close watch over people entering inside.

CHANDRA KUND

It is also a sacred pond like surya kund. It is there in an isolated area unlike Surya Kunda. Only women can offer prayers in this kund.

LINGA BHAIRAVI TEMPLE

Linga Bhairavi is the temple of the mother goddess who is believed to be the giver of strength and stability to our mind and body. At the entrance of the temple there is statue of a yogini offering prayers to the Linga Bhairavi.

There is a huge Trishul on the entrance itself which glorifies the beauty of the temple. Linga Bhairavi is in the form of a linga 8 feet tall and is made of solidified mercury core.

DHYANALINGA YOGIC TEMPLE

Dhyanalinga temple offers a meditative space to the pilgrims. You will find a Sarva Dharma Stambha at the entrance engraved with the symbols of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism, Taoism, Shinto and Buddhism.

Outside the entrance there is a huge sculpture of Nandi. While entering inside the the main door the members of Isha foundation guide people about the procedures to follow inside the temple. A complete silence is to be maintained inside the temple as it is a place for mediation. The main temple consists of a 13 feet large lingam made of high density of black granite. A dome made of country fired bricks covers the main temple.

THE PROCEDURE

When people enter through the main door there is a hall before entering into the main temple. The members of the foundation assist them to sit in rows and meditate for 15 mins. A complete silence should me maintained inside the premises. After that they will let the entire group to enter the dome space where people meditate for next 15 minutes by sitting around the lingam. That place is full of peace and spirituality. After 15 mins they will guide you till outside.

The foundation run several programs run at the rejuvenation centre, where people can learn various methods of yoga, massage and other things related to diet and human well being. They also provided medicines and rejuvenation tonics prescribed by their doctors.

SCHOOL AND RESIDENTIAL AREA

The foundation has made home school and redidential area for the family of the members working there. The school teaches the ancient methods and yoga to the students.
