In September, I decided that I should spend a weekend in such a place which can rejuvenate all energy I am losing in my daily job. There were so many options in front of me but I picked Gokarna.... One of the unspoiled location left in South India.

We were group of total 24 people, one joined from Pune and rest are from Hyderabad. Our journey started at Friday 4PM to Hubli in SC-UBL Express. Once we were settled in our seats every one became a professional UNO player and time just flew and we dozed off.

Day 1

We reached Hubballi at 7.30AM. We got into our pre booked bus and started the journey to Murudeswar first.

Murudeswar is 210KM from Hubballi and by 1.30PM we reached there. But temple was closed, after some discussion we decided why to waste time waiting, let's get into the beach and play. Murudeswar beach is one of the beach with so many species of sea creatures. With in 10 minutes I entered into the water, I spotted six types of crabs, so many star fish. There are only few stalls which sells food in beach. One of the item you should try there is "Live Bhangda Fish Fry". It's the common species in Murudeswar area and cost is nominal and taste is good.

At 3.30PM, temple gates were opened and I was very eager to view the statue of Siva from the top of Gopura. If you pay 10/- , temple authorities will allow you to the top of Gopura, from where you will get the breath taking view of Siva statue and the Ocean. It was one of the best moments in the trip.

Temple was so peaceful and the environment felt like heaven. We spent some time in the temple and started to Gokarna at 6.30PM. It takes two hours journey from Murudeswar to Gokarna.

We directly went to OM Beach which is the jewel of Gokarna beaches and unpacked our luggage and pitched tents. There are very few options for dinner in OM beach after 8PM. We chose Namaste Cafe which is at starting of the beach. Food was tasty but staff is not so friendly.

Tides were fast because it was full moon and the place where we pitched tents started to fill with water. So we packed our luggage and moved toward center of OM beach and it was the best place for camping. By the time we pitched tents in second place the time was 12AM.

Camping under full moon, camp fire and friends to share stories.... that was the moment I just felt this night should never end..

Day 2

At 2AM we finally slept and woke up at 5.30AM. We packed our tents and freshen up in Shacks and had yummy bread omelet and hot coffee. Till 9AM we were just chilling out in OM beach. Clouds saved us from Sun and the gushing sound of ocean waves is so soothing to ears.

We started our trek to Half Moon Beach. Trek is simple and it's hardly 1-2KM. You have to cross a cliff to reach Half Moon beach and through out the way you will hear the ocean waves and the cool breeze will make the trek more beautiful. But the scenery is too beautiful so we were walking very slowly clicking pics and taking breaks at every possible place.

We reached Half Moon Beach at 10am. There are very few stalls where you will get water and few snacks. View is simply spectacular.

Only jet ski is available in Half moon beach.

We spent some time there and reluctantly we continued our trek to Paradise beach. Path is clear but it's little steep this time. You can opt the route on beach line where you have to cross the rocks which is little risky. This trek took around 40 minutes and this beach is so isolated that there were hardly 10 people other than us. Water is so clear and the view was stunning and felt like I was in some isolated island of Maldives.

Only one stall was there where they were selling coconut water, water bottle and some snacks. Cost is little bit high.

At 12PM we decided to go back but very less energy was left in us. So planned boat ride back to OM beach. Cost is a bit high but due to demand had no other option. It was hardly 15 min boat ride but best thing was we spotted a pack of five dolphins.

Reachd back to OM beach and spent some more in beach and started back to Hubballi at 4PM.

Reached Hubballi at 8PM and after dinner boarded bus to Hyderabad.

To Reach Gokarna

By Bus:

There are no.of buses from Bangalore to Gokarna operated by KSRTC and few private buses. If you are travelling from any other city, Hubballi is the best point. From Hubballi, it will take four hours(150KM).

By Train:

Gokarna Road railway station is a small station, only few trains stop here. Not a preferable option by many.

Things you should not miss:

Take a walk in OM beach during Sun Rise

Food in Shacks

Local Shopping

Mahabaleswar Temple

Beach trail covering four beaches (Kudle, OM, Half Moon and Paradise Beach)

Camping in beach (Not preferable during full moon)

Kayaking(Only available in Kudle Beach)

Budget:

It took around 3k for me including Travel, Food and the boat ride.(No water sports.)
