Monsoon turns the western ghats into a fairy land. The lush greenery, intermittent waterfalls and the wooly clouds shrouding the peaks lend a charm to this region that's difficult to describe. Most of the treks in the Western Ghats are popular in monsoon, because of this incredible view!

What if I told you that you can get the same view, just by travelling 5 hours out of Bengaluru, and that too without a strenuous trek?
Well, Deveramane is the answer you've been looking for, and this charming hill station turns into a green wonderland during monsoon.
About the Place
Devaramane(literally meaning "ABode of the Gods" in Kannada) is a tiny hamlet situated in Chikmagalur district. It is famous for its view point, which shows a sweeping view of the western ghat within a 15-30 min hike.
It is situated an hour away from the famous Hoysala era temple of Belur, and can be easily combined with Belur and Halebidu, the latest additions to India's list of UNESCO World Heritage SItes.
The best thing to do here is to sit for hours and gaze at the view!

How To Reach
Devaramane has to be reached by road. Best is to hire or come by own vehicle from Bengaluru(5 hours drive). We did see many state transport buses also going to Deveramane.
Accomodation
There are many homestays in the vicinity. We stayed in Coffee Thota Homestay near Belur, and had a fantastic time there. The charges were Rs. 2000 per person per day including all 3 meals, tea/coffee in the morning and evening, hike to a local viewpoint, bonfire and evening snacks.
Nearby Places/Activities
1. Belur and Halebidu Hoysala era Temples(now a UNESCO World Heritage site known as "sacred ensembles of the Hoysalas"). Belur is 55km from Devaramane and Halebidu is 70 km away.

2. Magajahalli Abbi Falls
THis is a small falls active during monsoon. It is shallow and good for swimming and playing in water. It is around 25 km away.

3. Bettada Byraveshwara Temple
This is a 600 year old temple, which is located in very beautiful environs and this place can be visited just for the views.

Best Time To Visit
If you like greenery then visit in the monsoon months of end June to September. Else, you can visit any time of the year.
