Kalapathar trek to Pheriche to Pangboche | Mount Everest base camp trek | Day 9

23rd Apr 2019

It was our last day at Gorakhshep and near to Mount Everest Peak. At Everest base camp one actually see Mount Everest peak. To see it one need to trek to Kala Pathar. Kala pathar is basically a Hill and which take you to the height of roughly 5.5 km. That means you gain around 350 meters in a single trek.

So let me start this blog. It is our Day 10 and we are going to hike Kala pathar today.

We woke very early morning this day, that is. 3 am. There was a time when we both Gaurav and I thought, let's leave this but then it was our last day and our only chance to click Mount Everest peak so closely and so we Pushed ourselves once again.

It was damn cold outside when we started our trek. The point was to see Sunrise at this point. Around 4 am few group of people started trekking it and along with we also joined.

The trek is the most difficult part of this trip and It was the 5th time when I thought, now is the time when my lungs would explode :D ...

It took almost 3 hrs to trek to Kalapathar. The temperature was like in -5 or -10 degree... I spilled some water from my bottle which was instantly freezes up. We took few pictures and tried our best to make video which was indeed one the most difficult task we both took to do.

But we saw a wonderful view of Mount Everest Peak... I can't forget for my rest of life...

(Aaaahhh ... what a view it was)

Hands color changed to blue in few minutes as soon as we took our hands out of gloves. It was that harsh. For a moment we stopped walking and then our toes started freezing up and hence we kept moving on their until we reached to the top and quickly we marched back to Gorakhshep.

In One and half hr we were back to our hotel and while touching the ground I also saw few people taking water out from ditches. I was kind of curious to know about it and what I found was that these people had made few ditches, in night, Ice got frozen in there and in morning they take water out from the melted ice. Life is very hard in this region and I got to know why water is costly here.

(and finally saw the Sun)

Around 8.30 am we were back, and took our breakfast, packed out bags and without wasting our time we were now ready to return back. We dropped the idea to go to Gokyu lake, the main reason for us was we were out of cash.

The very idea of going back from this region for which we both were walking together from past 8 days, shook me from within...My eyes got moist. I already started missing this place for every step I was taking back to Lukla.

We planned to go back to Pangboche which was kind of mistake I feel. It was our longest day in full trip. The main reason was that we will be in connection to world via our phone, will talk to parents and near and dear ones if we can make it.

It was the same old path. From Gorakhshep to Lobuche (where we took another breakfast) and from there after crossing Thukla, the way change. We started walking towards Pherichey.

Let me tell you, Pherichey is extremely beautiful. Please stay at this place. It is a fairy tale kind of place. No words for it. But, we decided to go to Pangboche which is like 2 and half hr trek from Pherichey and it was of-course a dumb mistake we did. By the time we reached to Pangboche, we both were dead tired, like a zombie.
