After the second edition of the surfing festival that ended on 28th May, gear up for Karnataka’s first ever Kayak Festival.

The Karnataka government is turning heads with the announcement of the Kali Kayak festival. The festival aims to promote the natural beauty and scope for adventure activities in the state. It is a step in the right direction to put India on the map of adventure activity hot-spots around the world.

The festival will be held in Dandeli, on the Kali River from the 2nd of June to the 4th. It is a joint effort by the Department of Youth Affairs and General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure.

The festival is being conducted in association with Goodwave Adventures and is divided into three categories: Novice, Intermediate and Professional. People with different experience levels in Kayaking can participate in the festival. The eligibility criteria for each category are laid down on the website. The list of events and races at the festival includes Kayak Salom, Boatercross, Downriver sprint and Team Marathon. Participation fees for the Beginner level is INR 500 where as for the Intermediate and professional levels are INR 2500 and INR 3000 respectively.

Prizes range from INR 15000 to 40,000 for the events. The best paddler (men and women) will receive a sum of INR 50,000 each. However, for the intermediate category, there are no cash prizes but there are interesting kayaking gears to be won.

In addition to the diverse wildlife, dense forest and raging rivers, we now have two unique festivals and two good reasons to look forward to visiting Karnataka every year.
