Kalsubai night trek
Kalsubai is a mountain range of the Sahyadri range in Maharashtra. Situated at an elevation of 1646m. Known as Everest of Maharashtra. I was almost dead..i was all exhausted. But the view was amazing..I have captured those moments with my eyes. Luckily saw a shooting star.
Well it all started with the phone conversation with my friend around 11:55pm on friday. She told Neelam is going for the night trek. My reaction was "NIGHT TREK! eh!" I always wanted to go for night treks.Had heard a lot about the new trend these days of trekking at night. I said i wanna go. We added Neelam on conferance call and i told i want to come, take me anyhow. She was like okay let me see..hmm.
Next morning she gave me confirmation that yaaay!! Theirs a seat and she had booked it for me. We went through MUMBAI TRAVELLERs. So on saturday i had caught the train with all excitement from Dadar station heading my journey around 6:30 pm.
Wait!? Well let me take you 3 hours back on that day..Saturday when we were supposed to leave for the trek. I got on my new reebok shoes and a new pair of trek suit. I got a big back pack which was not needed as such. And filled it with all unnecessary stuffs and made it even more heavy. I forgot the fact that i had to carry my baggage myself and climb.Nobody would help me with that.So it was my first night trek and i was very very very over enthusiastic. Got ready and started clicking pics, adding stories on snap chat that i'm going for the night trek....as if i'm going on the moon;). Meanwhile Neelam called and asked "where are you?" I'm like home. She shouted "you mad girl!" If you miss 6:35 local from Dadar than you will get another train probably around 9 pm and my trekking expedition will than be a day dream.....
I rushed from Boriwali to Dadar and managed to meet my other friends and ofcourse Neelam on the knock of time. We got train which was too full. But Mumbaikars afterall can manage locals you see;). After around 2 hours journey we reached Kansara station. Met our trek leader and other travellers and headed for the base of Kalsubai- Everest of Maharashtra.
We started around 12:45 - 1 am something. Initially for first 15 minutes it was all happy happy feeling. And soon i realised it is not what i thought of. The path was difficult. I was breathless, sweating all over and legs started to pain.Neelam got cramps in her leg. I was dieing and my friend named Hardik was pushing us both to climb and continue.
It was a night trek right?/ So you need a torch. I'm so smart, i didn't got one. It was all dark, stony, sandy slippery path which was unable to cross for a person like me. Thanks to my friends and group leaders Ashwin and Suraj who literally holded and motivated me to keep climbing. There were three stages of this trek. After climbing soooo much we just reached our first stage. And had rest. We had small intoductory round. Around 80 people were their. Came to know different people. Manny of them were either CAs or engineers.
I met a very interesting personality, Deepak Pai. He was an old man probably of my grandfather's age. He was into trekking hiking and other mountaineering activities since a very young age. While we fresh bloods were lagging behind, he was full energetic. He had all medicines, food, extra torch, sleeping bag and all necessary things one needs for trekking. heh! it was shame on us we were nothing in front of him. That introduction round was fun.
We all headed for the second stage finally. I was stumbling. No energy left in my soul again.. and anyhow we reached the second stage. It was a plateau kind of land. We had dinner their around 3am under the stars. Very soothing and cold climate it was. Than later all started for the third and final stage.. I was like noo mahn! It was very narrow path of ladders on the mountain rocks. Only 3 persons at a time on the ladder can proceed. It was back breaking and tiresome and utimately puzzling in my mind that yes i can do it!
Around 5:30 we amanged to reach the summit. BINGO!!! It was icy cold and breezy. All were exausted but the view made it all. It was just amazing. I saw a beautiful sunrise which was enough to forget all the aches. We decided to relax for a while and laid down under the sky and sahaydri mountain ranges around us in chilling cold. When i woke up, i saw all were wandering here and there capturing views. You'll find something tremendous where ever your eye sight reaches.
I thought to have some peaceful moment with myself and found a corner on the edge of a small rock. You know i was a super woman and had not carried any janket or warm clothes and was shivering like hell. And the weather was so breezy..man why cant life be this easy?!
Later we had much needed hot tea and breakfast by the locals around. Those people used to climb in an hour which we took around 6 hours. Like how? They got some special powers?! We started descending around 9 am and slowly the sun started spreading with its open heart. That's the reason you should go for night treks . And at that time adventure girl faced another adventure just when her new so called reebok shoes got broken;) well i'm not flaunting my branded shoes though;).... and yes it really hurted me. No option but to get down. On the way me and my super talented friends discovered some short cut and got isolated from the group. Well locals helped to get the trails and we reached down at the base in around 3 hours. We had lunch at locals their, and started leaving with some good memories.
I was so tired that i slept from kansara to Boriwali and again at home. I directly woke up next day with all wounds and bruishes and body pain. After effects of trek you see;) But Friends+Adventure=YES. Go for outdoors, It will be fun. Trust me.
