After you land at the international airport in Hulhule near Male, you can get to your island resort by seaplane or speedboat depending on the distance to travel. While some recommend speedboats for lower costs, remember that seaplane journeys to places like the Raa Atoll provide some unforgettable vistas worth experiencing too.

Did you know that at luxury Maldives resorts you can enjoy accommodation at overwater villas or spacious residences right above the ocean or a lagoon? Some of these feature private plunge pools and terraces to unwind and they generally have steps leading to the water below for swimming or snorkelling anytime you choose!

Strict Local Laws

The Maldives is a Muslim nation with strict laws linked to its Islamic faith. Thus, on local islands, you must dress conservatively covering bare shoulders and legs, avoid public displays of affection and refrain from drinking alcohol. Such regulations don’t apply to private island resorts, however, another reason to stay at them.

Mostly Uninhabited Islands

You may be surprised to find out that of the over 1,000 islands in the Maldives, most are uninhabited; only a relatively small number are for local habitation or private resorts. Certain uninhabited islands are used for growing crops, while some provide a secluded escape to enjoy picnics or romantic dining with that special someone.
