We spent the entire day relaxing, took Kerala massage, read books, enjoyed the serenity of the place and danced to the sunset.
We checked in to our resort and relaxed for a bit.
We both love lighthouses and we never miss a chance to visit one. In the evening we went to Alappuzha Lighthouse, the view from the top is amazing. We took a sunset stroll on Alappuzha beach and returned to the resort.
This is one of the most memorable and amazing road trips for us. We hired a Honda Deo in Kochi and started our road trip. Kerala is a very beautiful and clean state with amazing roads, so a road trip is a must when you visit.
We had a delicious breakfast with filter coffee (not to be missed) and started our journey around 8 am.
Kumarakom is only one hour and 40 minutes from Kochi, the road is scenic with backwaters and coconut trees along the way. We reached the resort, where they had a boat to take us to the resort via a canal. Once we reached the resort, the view was breathtaking.
The next day after breakfast we checked out and began our journey for Varkala. It was around 3 and half hour journey, so we made a few stops to enjoy delicious coconut water. We reached our resort around 1 pm. Again the view from the resort was mesmerising. It was on a cliff overlooking the ocean.
We had our lunch, freshened up and left for the beach . Varkala has a beautiful cliff along the beach where you can do paragliding based on the wind condition on that day.
We came back and enjoyed the sunset from the resort.
Next day we started the day early and walked along the cliff with sound of ocean . You can find a lot of good shops and cafes there.
Then we went to Kappil beach which was around 7 km from our resort. It is a stone beach and has beautiful view of estuary (a place where backwater meets the ocean).
After breakfast (which is my favourite meal of the day especially while travelling), we started our journey for Munroe Islands. It is one hour 45 minutes ride from Varkala, with some small stops along the way around 2 hours.
Munroe island is located besides the splendid Ashtamudi Lake. You can do canoeing in the lake and enjoy the serenity and beauty of this lake.
Our resort had provided cycles to explore the village and area around.
After checkout, we left for Alleppey or which is also known as Alappuzha. Journey from Munroe island to Alleppey is approximately 3 hours.
Next day morning, we took a boat ride in the backwaters on Alleppey.
After that refreshing ride, we checked out and headed back to Kochi which is a one and half hour ride.

That ended our beautiful road trip in Kerala along the backwaters, coconut trees, beaches, lighthouse, estuary and lakes.
