Kolkata - The City of Trams

25th Dec 2016

The best part of being a Government Officer's daughter is LTC (Leave Travel Concession) which my dad gets to visit any part of India. My dad is an avid traveller, and he has imbibed the same interest in us, his daughters. Our last trip was to Kolkata, the land not only of Rosogullas and Misti Doi, but also of Dev and Koel, my two fave actors of Bengali Cinema (Can you beleive that I had met them both during a Shoot in Hyderabad for a Bengali Movie called Paglu 2). So I was pretty excited about this trip to Kolkata.

Day 1

At 04.00 AM sharp the taxi arrived to our House. We reached Secundrabad railway station at 5 o clock. We waited 1/2 hour at the station and finally the train moved out of the station chugging slowly. The next day we got off the train at 9:00 am in the morning. This was the first time I traveled in a train for 27 hours

Day 2

We reached Kolkata at 09.00 AM the next morning. My dad's friend's family, Manoj Uncle, Bandana Aunty and their only daughter Mansi were waiting for us at the Station. As soon as we got off we met them and there was a yellow taxi waiting for us outside the station. We went to our guest house, freshened up and had breakfast. Then we hired a taxi and went straight to Victoria palace. (I forgot to tell you, our Guest House was in such a close proximity that we could see the Victoria Palace from the balcony). We enjoyed there very much and boarded a tram,[the train on road]. Kolkata is the only City in India which still has trams. Then we went to science city saw all the information about plants and planets and many more. Then we were tired and thought to go to guest house to take some rest,we had dinner and asleep happily.

Day 3

We got up, freshened up,got ready and booked a taxi and went to mother Teresa's memorial we saw the memorial and got back then went to a shopping mall saw it, bought some things and went back to our guest house. In the afternoon, it was shopping session at the New Market. Oh my God, this Market had everything everyone needs. We did a lot of shopping from bags, shoes, dresses and a lot of other things. Loaded with our shopping bags, we entered into the KFC outlet and had some chicken goodies. Life was bliss.

Day 4

The fourth and the last day Kolkata. We had to leave this City by the evening train. So we decided to go to some Shopping Malls. We went to South city mall. Spend half the day there and enjoyed a lot. While returning back to the Guest House we bought some bengali sweets for our relatives back in Hyderabad. At the Station, we bid bye to Mansi, who was just 7 years of age, but I became very good friends with her and Bandana Aunty. Bidding bye to Kolkata was not happening, I wanted to come back here once again, some time soon.
