La la la la on the Butterfly beach

Tripoto

After a lot of plans, cancellations, re-plans I find myself with this crazy college group of mine riding with 3 layers of cloths on us as it was midnight and the January chills were piercing right into our hearts. We rode up to Kolhapur (almost a 2 hour ride) where our friend was waiting with a car for our trip. We parked our bikes, jumped into comfortable t-shirts and the heater was on to make the drive even more comfortable.

We drove all the way to Belgaum and then decided not to take the usual way to Goa, instead we would drive through the southern side of Bhimgad wildlife sanctuary to reach Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife sanctuary & then would directly enter Southern Goa where lays a beautiful place called “Butterfly Beach”, Palolem.

FYI, the sanctuaries were full of roadblocks as the roads were under construction! We had to re-route almost 11 times and went back and forth for about 50 kms. After a tedious yet exciting drive of 6 hours we reached Palolem at around 6 am (we had a very small window to catch the sunrise from beach) you have to drive through Palolem towards East & after a 15 minutes drive there is this small signboard almost un-noticeable, which will lead to a small bumpy road of about 2 kms through dense forest. For almost a minute or two on the road you will feel like you are lost but hey! That’s where the fun starts.

So we came up to a beautiful open air Shack “The Wild” owned by this Italian couple and has exponentially high prices considering an Indian point of view! One has to park the car at the shack as further half km road is strictly for offroading & normal cars won’t make it to the end.

Without any second thoughts we were on our feet towards the beach because “Bhai ko sunrise nahi miss karna tha”. Following the tyre marks and car tracks we finally reached the beach and let me tell you we missed the sunrise, we were exhausted, hadn’t eaten anything since last night’s dinner, eyes were puffed as nobody had got any sleep due to road mishaps BUT…… The view! The view was something like God must have painted the sea, sieved the sand and placed the rocks in perfect rhythm around the sand to create this wonderful piece of art!

We strolled around for a bit and clicked pictures and had a good swim as unlike other beaches in Goa, this had clear water even when we were 4ft deep. At around 9am some guys approached the beach through the sea in their Kayaks <3 and we found out that you can actually hire kayaks at Cola beach resort and paddle your way to this baby!

Away from all crowds and Goa luxuries this place lies in peace still untouched and unadulterated! Make sure you visit 

Keep the beaches clean!
