The word ‘Lahaul’ is derived from the Tibetan word Lho-yul meaning country in the south or Lhahi-yul meaning country of the gods. The Chandra river originates from a glacier near the Chandra Taal and Bhaga river which originates from Suraj Taal nourishes the Lahaul valley. Lahual’s snow-covered mountains, lush green fields, milky white rivers and streams, placid lakes and mountain passes (Baralacha la is the most famous of them), make for a picture-perfect scene. Its simple rustic charm, festivals, folk dances and culture attract tourists from all over the world.

In the pictures, one can see three picture-perfect hidden villages named Warpa, Lote and Tandi (The place where Chandra and Bhaga river meet and give birth to the Chandrabhaga, after entering the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir the same river baptized as the Chenab river)
