If you’re a crazy movie fan like me, and fell in love with Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, and dreamed about taking a trip to Manali with friends, let me stop you right there. Manali is beautiful, sure. It’s mesmerizing. But, it’s not how the movie portrays it to be.

It’s a perfect destination if you’re trying to get away from the city heat & pollution, a destination for the wanderers and the exhausted.

I’m not telling you not to visit Manali with friends, don’t get me wrong, anywhere you go with the ones you love, and the ones who bring out the crazy side of you – is inexplicably fun!

I visited Manali last year, with 6 of my friends. We rented a villa, and decided to reincarnate what happened in LEH, self-navigation, that is. We rented out motorbikes from RentSetGo. It’s easier to zip through the roads when you’re on a two-wheeler, than when you’re on a four-wheeler.

I went to a bunch of places; we explored everything that we could. We spoke to the locals, and asked them what their favourite places were, and what they did here for leisure.

From all the places I visited, here’s a list of a few you shouldn’t miss:

1. Piccadilly cinema:

So, Piccadilly cinema is nothing out of the ordinary, except for one factor: BEER! Have you had beer while watching a movie, in a legitimate theatre? No right? It’s because it is prohibited. Sneaking in Alcohol is fun, but there is an entirely new rush if you did it legally. Yes, you heard me right. You can purchase beer along with other movie-specific drinks and munchies.

It’s a uniquely weird experience. Trust me, if you’re of legal age, you absolutely should try this theatre and chug a beer while interesting yourself in a movie.

2. Naggar Castle:

Okay number one common thing to know about this place: this is where Jab We Met was shot. Come on, this whole place oozes with the reminder of ‘bollywood’ movies. If you want to get reminded of the whole ‘nagada’ feeling, you know where you should be headed.

Other than that though, another interesting thing about this place: if you look at the reflection cast upon the river, you can literally see the beautiful stars shimmering through the night. The ripples of the ocean, and the twinkle of the stars together create a majestic aura. You must witness this.

3. The infamous Solang Valley

Even if you’ve seen snow before, and made gorgeous snowmans, I suggest you to visit this place. Just the whole atmosphere is something that is everything but ordinary. Sit and observe the joyous expressions on peoples’ faces. Feel that nauseating joy within your heart as you see millions of people showing off their baateesi (teeth).

Throw a few snowballs yourself, do the activities there: Paraglide through the beauty that Manali offers you. It’s not once in a lifetime opportunity, I agree, but it’s something you must experience since you’re already there.

4. “Spot-The-Yak”

Trust me, after a point you will get tired of seeing Yaks. Indulge yourself in a little game, and keep a count of the number of Yaks you see as a group. Try to distinguish between a yak you have already seen and one that you haven’t.

5. Rohtang Pass

Only because it is so gorgeous, and you will get instagram-worthy pictures, that’s a promise!

6. Visit the Manali Sanctuary:

If you’re lucky, you may spot a bear! So keep those binoculars ready, and make sure you have eyes on every corner. Don’t yell at the driver to stop, but make sure to convey the message to him when needed. The adrenaline that pumps through your veins while safaris is something you will not regret. Doesn’t matter how many times you’ve seen a Tiger before. Seeing one in its habitat is a true sight.

And well, the rest is yours to explore. There were just a few places to keep in mind!
