The Plan

It could have been the usual Sunday morning but it became so unusual when I surprisingly woke up at 5 and an idea popped up into my mind. The idea of an early morning monsoon ride, but where? Internet helped with no time & it was Bhongir Fort. I pinged one of my travel buddies & it took less than 30 minutes for him to reach my place.

About the place

Bhongir Fort is a Fort located in Bhongir town in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district in Telangana. It is 50 Kms from Hyderabad and can be easily reached by road through NH163 - Hyderabad - Warangal highway. It was built in 10th century by the Western Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI. The inscriptions, the architecture and some sculptures found in the fort reveal that the fort was ruled by Chalukyan kings for a long time and then by the Kakatiya dynasty.(Source: Wikipedia)

The Journey

We started our journey at 6 in the morning from Hyderabad. It was a cloudy rainy day, roads were wet and weather was slightly cold. The weather called for a tea break, we had tea at a roadside stall & continued. It was lush green all around en route. Soon we reached Bhongir town and got the first glimpse of the hilltop fort. As we were hungry, we decided to have breakfast at a nearby food joint which served fresh Idly & Dosa.

As soon as we reached the entrance of the fort, we got to know that the entry starts at 10:00 AM & it was 8:20 at that moment. Surprisingly, we saw a couple of people inside the boundary wall which made us curious and we discovered a way from where one can easily enter the fort premises. Now, it is probably not very appropriate to enter without permission & ticket but one can pay the ticket of Rs.10 while getting out and they wont mind it.

The Bhongir fort is built on an oval shaped isolated monolithic rock which provides a unique & catchy view.

We started climbing from the unofficial way, the climb was not tough but a shoe with good grip is highly recommended.

the unofficial way

Soon we merged with the official way which has big rocky stairs. City looked beautiful from the stairs as we climb up.

We entered yet another gate, probably the internal boundary which gave us the gigantic view of the rock.

The climb got steeper with every step. We encountered several beautiful ponds on the way up.

Also, there is a Hanuman temple on the half way up. We took a 10 minutes break to enjoy the amazing weather & to admire the beauty of the place.

Things to note:

1. Start early & enjoy the weather.

2. Don't hesitate to take the unofficial way.

3. Wear shoes with good grip.

4. Carry water bottle.

5. Try 300 ft. Rappelling here, you'll find the organizers easily, it costs 500 bucks.

Keep Wandering, Keep Wondering !!!
