Day 1

Ahoy Maurice! A place that is so beautiful and loaded with the richness of serene beaches and islands, beautiful landscapes, friendly locales, blend of cultures and so much more..

So this is how my trip to Mauritius was..

After months of wedding preparations, we were really looking forward to this trip to Mauritius. It wasn't the "honeymoon" that added the spark, we were in glee just with the thought of a vacation after all the hustle bustle that a traditional marriage brings to your life.

We started our travel from Bombay airport and since it was an early morning flight, we decided to get some booze before we board ????. This is so not advisable peeps, but yeah, I needed it so much and it's fun to drink with your husband just after being the traditional "bahu" (bride) in all those marriage functions. So, yeah I had a crazy, longish drinking session before boarding the flight with my caring husband.

A smooth flight it was with Air Mauritius. Mauritius offers visa on arrival so the process was pretty smooth there. At the airport, we had an escort from the holiday planner waiting for us with our name card. Now something very exciting happened here.. While my husband was talking to the travel escort and getting the local Mauritian SIM card activated, I excused myself for a quick loo break and to grab some munchies and water for our travel till the hotel. Though I informed my husband before going, I went on a longish break just as I was seeing the airport and its gallery as an enthusiast.. And also, trying to understand the USD to MUR calculation from the cafe owner from where I went to purchase my chips, water and chewing gum!

Day 2

Okay, so it's day 2 and we had the tour of South Mauritius.. I like calling it Maurice.. Just as the locals call it..

The turquoise sea, the green earth, the cool breeze and that notorious weather. Everything was just so perfect that even sitting and chilling by the beach and exploring the local markets and interacting with the locales made for the perfect day.

Day 3

Visited the beautiful Chamarel, Bel Ombre, Ile aux Cerf (You will find great difficulty in pronouncing these names if one isn't familiar with French). So Mauritius was a French colony, the reason why the locals speak broken French and broken English there. Shopping places and stores close down by 6 Pm and it could be disappointing for those who keep the shopping plans for the night time.

Day 4

Port Louis was the only commercially developed part of our itinerary. The place is mostly flocked by tourist and the mall hosts events by the bay. The stuff you buy there is expensive, you would avail the same in Goa! but I know that feeling that every tourist has of picking up some gifts for people back home, and we end up splurging so so so much more. If I have to recommend, one can pick cinnamon wood artifact, bikinis, Sega dress, handmade jewelry! And am sorry boys, there is nothing much for you peeps there! My husband and I picked up this t-shirt with the Mauritian Dodo on it. Like this cute couple who is very much in love, we traveled back home wearing that very tee! :P

Day 5

Day 5 was the most exciting part of our trip. I got to do some much awaited water sport there. Scuba diving, underwater walk, parasailing, tube ride and a few more. The beaches were splendid and serene. People were awesome, locals and tourists, both.

Just when I was returning after 10-15 mins, I spotted mister husband from far and I saw him talk to the policemen outside the airport ????.. Giving them my description and which way I went. I found this amusing.. As I rushed towards him, I saw the worry and tension on his face which made me go weak on my heels.. *awwwww, he cares!*

As I walked towards him, he was moving away from me and went and sat in our car.. Not talking to me at all.. He thought I went missing and obviously was worried about my whereabouts. Oh boy, with a lot of nudging and romantic hugs could I lighten up his mood.

The drive from airport to our hotel was around 1.5 hours.. A scenic drive with smooth roads and amazing climate.. Summed up to that perfect romantic drive! We checked into Anelia Beach resort and spa.. And my my, what an amazing place it was! The prefect view from every nook and corner of the hotel, friendly and helpful staff, the energy and vibe around was just superb! We fell in love with our accommodation right then. Rest of the day we lazed around and spent the evening by the beach and the bar.

We didn't click too many pictures of us during the trip or the places we visited. But we have captured those memories, those sights, and would cherish them for lifetime. Mauritius is far from the hustle bustle of a happening city, it is more about the 'feel' of the place, the culture and warmth of the locals, the graceful welcomes and goodbyes that the place gave us. It's about all this and a lot more.

Thank you Travel Triangle, Seaside Holidays for being the facilitators of this trip! Had a wonderful experience overall!
