Until 1953, Jammu city had its own foreign department and an army headquarters and back in those days, you had to have a special permit to enter this earstwhile Princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. Mubarak Mandi complex was the seat of the ruler of Jammu. The palace was the royal residence of the maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir from the Dogra dynasty. It was their main seat till 1925 when maharadja Hari Singh moved to the Hari Niwas Palace in the northern part of Jammu. The palace is located in the heart of the old walled city of Jammu and overlooks the Tawi river. This is a great place to explore the history of the Jammu and it's a place one must visit on their trip to Jammu.
